Its quite clear that Ford takes China’s auto market seriously, with many of its now-global products being introduced there for the first time like the 2015 Edge and Lincoln MKZ sedan. In preparation for the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show, Ford will not only show of its latest wares, has announced that it will also debut the new 2016 Ford Taurus.
“We are looking forward to taking the wraps off seven new vehicles for our customers in China and continuing our delivery of great products and innovative technologies,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO, Ford China. “With the new Ford Taurus, our Ford Performance vehicles, and a few other surprises, there will truly be something for everyone.”
This is going to be the first appearance of Ford’s Flagship sedan in China, that will certainly fit their desire of full-sized four-door sedans.
The latest generation Taurus was a revitalization of the nameplate, as it waned in popularity to the pint of being briefly discontinued. This generation Taurus was the successful redesign that Ford was looking for. It has since become ubiquitous on U.S. roads, both as a popular consumer product as well as the basis for many Police Interceptor vehicles. The Taurus received a mild facelift in 2013, that saw a few cosmetic tweaks added to the design.
There’s hardly any details of what to expect, but we suspect it’s going to be Ecoboost engines all the way at the very least. The car will be revealed at a private event on the 18th before going on display at the Shanghai show a couple days after.
We should expect a U.S.-spec version to be revealed later this year, which will presumably involve a new SHO model, since that’s more our kind of thing.
