Lenovo’s K80 smartphone throws 4GB of RAM and a 1080p screen at you for under $300

When the Asus Zenfone 2 was first announced back during CES 2015, one model packed 4GB of RAM, which was an industry first for any smartphone. However, it’s no longer the only smartphone with that much RAM, as Lenovo announced its own K80 with 4GB of RAM, reports Phone Arena.

The Lenovo K80, announced for the Chinese market, is powered by a 64-bit 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor, backed up by the aforementioned 4GB of RAM. Running Android 5.0 Lollipop, the K80 packs a 5.5-inch, 1080p display, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, 64GB of internal storage, and a healthy 4,000mAh battery.

The 4GB of RAM might seem like overkill, especially on a smartphone, but unlike smartphones with Quad HD displays, the 4GB of RAM actually provides a practical benefit: better multitasking. Android’s memory management can be spotty, but with 4GB of RAM, this is offset much more than if we were dealing with 2GB of RAM, which is still the standard for modern-day smartphones.

The K80 will carry a price tag of 1,800 CNY ($290), a rather aggressive price point for a smartphone with these specifications. Much like with the Zenfone 2, there will also be a model with 2GB of RAM, which will be priced at 1,500 CNY ($240).

As you can probably tell from the conversions, both versions of the K80 will initially be released in China on April 30, with no announcement of whether the smartphone will see a wider release. Regardless, if you’re interested in picking it up and you don’t live in China, your best bet would be import sites like Expansys.
