‘Meet the staff’ promo video for Wet Hot American Summer prequel is amazing

Thirteen wet, hot, American Summers have passed since we last saw the ragtag staff of Camp Fireside and a lot pretty much nothing has changed. The first trailer for Netflix’s new prequel made it clear that — though the cast members of the original may all be 14 years older — everyone feels right at home turning back the clock to the first day of camp, two months before the events of the film.

Still, if you needed further proof that this crew of miscreants has remained untouched by the hands of time (apart from a bit more bloating), you just got it.

Filmed in all the campy (pun intended) glory of the 1980’s, the latest promo video for Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp called “meet the staff” is up on the YouTubes, and it shows everyone up to their old antics again. Here are a few shining moments:

Katie (Marguerite Moreu) – “Whether you need a tampon, or a shoulder to cry on, I’m here for you. Bunk seven pride!”

Susie (Amy Poehler) – (after hammering ominously on low notes of piano) “That’s the soundtrack for the rest of your life.”

Greg (Jason Schwartzman) – “Hey, I’m Greg, boys’ head counselor, and it’s an honor. Please, don’t be afraid of me. I’m a good guy.”

As an added bonus, Netflix has also released a sprawling artist’s rendering of the cast battling in an epic game of tug-o-war, with some looking decidedly less interested than others.

No one can say for certain whether the TV show will capture all the cult-classic-y magic of the film but, as of right now, all signs point to yes. This kind of marketing really taps into all the goofball nostalgia that made the movie so beloved. Plus, from what we’ve seen, everyone looks pitch-perfect in their old roles … and (for most of the them) oddly unaffected by the aging process. But hey, that’s Hollywood.

“Get to know us, in Waterville, Maine” cries the narrator at the end of the promo spot — and we won’t have to wait long. All eight episodes of Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp will be available to stream starting July 31, 2015.
