The latest trailer kicks off with the foul-mouthed youngest Griswold son, Kevin (Steele Stebbins), terrorizing his older brother, James (Skyler Gisondo), so it’s immediately clear that confining this family in an enclosed space — like, say, a car — is a bad idea. Of course, dad Rusty (Ed Helms) seems to have missed this, so he proposes the brilliant plan of driving to Walley World. Since the park is closing forever, he wants to drive to it as his family did when he was young (see: National Lampoon’s Vacation).
On the road, as we all might’ve predicted, things get decidedly crazy. During a stop at a sorority house, Griswold mom Debbie (Christina Applegate) is recognized as “Debbie Do Anything,” a legend among the sisters. When she tries to scold them for idolizing very bad behavior, one quips that she “had a feeling she was all hype.” From Debbie’s oddly aggressive laugh in reaction, we’d say she took that as a challenge.
As the trip continues, the boys continue to squabble, but that’s the least of their problems. There are explosions, runaway white-water rafts, and even a phallic drawing on their car. It’s literally a wild ride.
Based on the Vacation trailers we’ve seen so far, we’re confident that the latest National Lampoon‘s installment will live up to the franchise’s tradition of inappropriate humor and NSFW family fun.
Vacation hits theaters on July 29.
