Nintendo has issued its weekly eShop update, introducing new games like Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash and 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the 3DS and Pocky & Rocky with Becky for the Wii U.
Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash, also available at retail this week, is a side-scrolling platformer starring Nintendo’s chirpy helper robot. Chibi-Robo has starred in several scattershot releases for Nintendo platforms over the last decade, starting with its debut in 2006’s GameCube release Chibi-Robo.
Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash also boasts amiibo support, allowing players to unlock new levels and items by using Nintendo-produced figurines. A compatible Chibi-Robo amiibo is bundled with special edition retail copies of Zip Lash.
Also arriving on the 3DS this week is an adaptation of Sega’s 16-bit platformer Sonic the Hedgehog 2, newly revamped with stereoscopic 3D support. 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 includes the full single-player game, its original two-player mode, and an optional feature that halves Sonic’s rings when he takes damage, greatly reducing the game’s difficulty.
3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the final entry in Sega’s 3D Classics, a project that brought many of the company’s legacy releases to the Nintendo 3DS. Past Sega 3D Classics releases include adaptations of the arcade games After Burner II, Space Harrier, and Fantasy Zone, along with ports of Sega Genesis releases like Ecco the Dolphin, Streets of Rage, and Gunstar Heroes.
Wii U owners can additionally expect to see a Virtual Console version of Natsume’s Pocky & Rocky with Becky this week. Originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, Pocky & Rocky with Becky presents overhead-view run-and-gun action in the vein of its Super NES series predecessors.
Other games launching via the eShop this week include Race the Sun, Whispering Willows, and Perpetual Blast for the Wii U and Goosebumps: The Game and The Smurfs for 3DS.
