Here’s Sir David Attenborough narrating Adele’s ‘Hello’ video (no, really!)

Sir David Attenborough narrates Adele's Hello
The iconic voice of celebrated filmmaker and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has become intrinsically connected to documentary filmmaking — particularly nature documentaries — over the years, but his latest work involves a decidedly different subject matter.

While visiting BBC’s Radio 1, Attenborough was asked to narrate Adele’s wildly popular “Hello” video. The result, well … let’s just say it really does speak for itself. (Pun totally and unabashedly intended.)

As you can see in the video of the exchange provided by Radio 1, Attenborough seems a bit skeptical of the request at first.

“Really?” he asks Radio 1 host Greg James. “Won’t Adele be cross with me?”

After being assured that Adele would probably love the idea, Attenborough commences narrating the video for the hit song — and the rest is something truly brilliant.

“Battling against strong winds and the weight of expectation, she’s convinced that now is her time to strike,” he says in the voice that has made him a living legend in Britain. “She, like all pop stars, needs to hunt to survive. But there’s a problem. The signal is poor and she hasn’t upgraded her handset since 1999.”

“Hashtag … flip phone,” he adds.

Released on October 23, “Hello” is the lead single from Adele’s upcoming third studio album, 25. Upon its release, the song became her second number-one single in the U.K and in the U.S. it became her fourth number-one single and the first song with over a million digital sales in a week.

The video for “Hello” was directed by Xavier Dolan and received more than 27.7 million views on Vevo within 24 hours, breaking the record previously set by Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.” It also became the fastest music video to receive 100 million views on Vevo, breaking the record set by Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”

Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

Amazon Prime Video is starting off strong in May with several new additions to its library of movies, including the premiere of the original romantic drama The Idea of You. Last year's underrated Christmas drama The Holdovers is also now streaming on Prime Video. And as far as we're concerned, a good drama is never out of season.

Prime Video lost a handful of movies at the end of April, and Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza is only sticking around through the end of the weekend. But everything else on our list of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video right now is still available. Just keep reading, and you can make plans to watch any of the films that you want to see this month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (May 2024)
Jenna Ortega in Miller's Girl.

It should come as no surprise that this year's hit rom-com Anyone But You has a stranglehold on the top slot of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. But it is somewhat surprising to see Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver completely disappear from the list. That's going to make Rebel Moon – Part Three very unlikely to happen, and it may even discourage Netflix from committing extremely high budgets to its original sci-fi movies.

More tellingly, two of this week's new additions are modestly budget dramas: Miller's Girl and The Judge. The former features Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, while the latter has great lead performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. So it's not a mystery as to why both of those films are two of the top performers of the week.
