Quantum Break is coming to PC the same day as Xbox One

Several high-profile Xbox exclusives have released on PC over the past few years, including launch games like Dead Rising 3 and even Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. But it looks like the “Xbox-exclusive” window is about to be completely eliminated, as one of the console’s most anticipated games, Quantum Break, will be releasing the same day on PC.

“Xbox wants to empower gamers to play the games they want with the people they want on the devices they want, so Microsoft Studios and Remedy Entertainment will launch Quantum Break on Windows 10 simultaneously with the Xbox One version,” Microsoft says in the official announcement. This comes just after the Xbox game Rise of the Tomb Raider also made its way to PC after just two months of exclusivity.

What’s unique, however, is that Microsoft is incentivizing players to play the game on multiple devices. If you pre-order Quantum Break digitally on Xbox One, the PC version is free. This offer also applies, strangely enough, to those who purchase the just-announced Quantum Break Xbox One bundle, which also includes the original Alan Wake as a download — this deal is perfect for those who buy a new console and then don’t want to use it.

The news also comes with a new live-action trailer dubbed “The Cemetery,” which attempts to further humanize protagonist Jack Joyce.

“We never thought time itself could collapse and take the world down with it. Because we take time for granted. Just like I took you for granted,” Joyce says as he places a picture at his brother’s grave. “But if I get another chance, I’ll make sure things are different.”

While Quantum Break doesn’t seem like the type of game to pull at your heartstrings, its mix of live-action footage with traditional gameplay could allow for unique narrative opportunities. We’ll see if Remedy is able to pull it off when the game launches for Xbox One (and PC!) on April 5.

Xbox revealed a new batch of library additions coming to its Game Pass service. The list includes some heavy hitters in Resident Evil 3 and Madden 24, as well as some indie hidden gems.

Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's subscription service that gives players access to select games for a monthly fee, will add eight new games in the first half of February. The rollout will start today with Anuchard and continue until February 20 with the sci-fi title Return to Grace.

Xbox Game Pass might not be losing a lot of games at the end of January, but the most significant loss is a big one. On January 31, the subscription service is losing Hitman: World of Assassination, which is one of the best stealth gaming experiences out there. Technically, it is a collection of three games’ worth of content, plus an excellent roguelike mode.

Few games can make you feel as clever or as idiotic as IO Interactive’s Hitman games, so World of Assassination is a must-play if you enjoy stealth gameplay and want to see those mechanics explored to their fullest. While the base games are short enough to blaze through in a few sittings, there's way more content here than you could reasonably get through in a week. You better get cracking if you want to try it without paying for the full package.
