2013 Mac Pro photo gallery

Amongst an onslaught of other announcements during the opening keynote of its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple exec Phil Schiller took a moment to give us a sneak peek at the company’s latest project: the next generation of Mac Pros.

As you can see from the photos above, this new hardware doesn’t look like your typical desktop tower. With a shape that vaguely resembles a tiny black R2D2, the new Mac Pros are small and cylindrical – a far cry from the bulky squarish form used in previous models. But don’t let the size fool you. While these computers might be an eighth of the size of their predecessors, they’re considerably more powerful.

Each new Mac Pro will ship with a next generation 12-core 256-bit Intel Xeon processor, which, according to Schiller, makes them “10 times faster” than any Mac before. The’ll also come with four USB 3.0 ports, no less than six Thunderbolt 2 ports, and will be capable of supporting up to three separate 4K displays.

Since this was just a preview, further details on specs are scarce at this point, but be sure to check back for more info during our ongoing coverage of WWDC 2013.
