AOL Fights Phishing

“America Online has begun a campaign to identify and block fraudulent Web sites that attempt to solicit personal information from visitors, it says. The crackdown against so-called “phishing” sites is being conducted in partnership with online security provider Cyota, which provides antifraud services for financial institutions. AOL and Cyota will try to identify potential phishing sites and limit access to them from AOL’s client software, the companies say.

AOL wants to block access to sites that spoof pages from its own service, as well as those that imitate other legitimate businesses such as banks, credit card providers, and online auctioneers. AOL subscribers can report suspected phishing sites by using a “report spam” button in AOL’s software, and users who try to access known phishing sites will be notified that they are visiting a potentially dangerous site, AOL says.”

Google just settled a $5B privacy suit involving Chrome browser

Google has agreed to settle a $5 billion lawsuit brought by claimants who accused the web giant of privacy invasion by tracking their online activities despite being in “incognito mode” when using the company’s Chrome browser.

After lawyers announced on Thursday that they’d reached a preliminary agreement, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers put a scheduled trial for the case in California on hold, Reuters reported.

Nvidia may launch three new Super GPUs to fight back AMD

Nvidia may be readying three new GPUs -- the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and the RTX 4070 Super. We haven't seen Super cards since Nvidia's RTX 20-series, but if this leak turns out to be true, they're coming back. Will they be worthwhile enough to rank high among the best graphics cards? It's hard to say, but they could help it compete against AMD's recent GPUs.

The information comes from hongxing2020, a frequent leaker in the GPU space. Nvidia already has a decent spread of GPUs between the RTX 4080, RTX 4070 Ti, and the RTX 4070. However, if a refresh to the Ada lineup is reportedly on the way, we might see some notable changes, but only if Nvidia decides to shake things up and use a different chip for at least two out of those three GPUs.
