Madden NFL 21 reveals unlikely SpongeBob SquarePants collaboration

Nickelodeon has teamed up with EA to create a collection of SpongeBob SquarePants-themed content for Madden NFL 21. The surprising collaboration features a SpongeBob arena for the game’s Yard mode and a collection of cosmetics based on the cartoon.

The new update, which is available to download right now, adds a new Reef-Top location to The Yard. The field features several signature touches from the popular Nickelodeon cartoon, including the iconic pineapple house and a giant inflatable SpongeBob hovering above the field.

The update comes with new modes that can be played at the location. In the new Goo Lagoon Bowl, players have to navigate a field of goo that slows them down. The Sandy’s Rocket Arm Rally allows players to launch passes of over 80 yards. The Flying Dutchman’s Ghostly Grab awards players points for making big catches.

In addition to the new modes, the update brings new SpongeBob-inspired gear to the game, which players can earn by completing challenges in the Reef-Top locale. A trailer shows players sporting bright yellow uniforms and gear emblazoned with characters including Patrick.

The update may seem entirely left-field, but this isn’t the first collaboration between Nickelodeon and the NFL brand this year. The channel will host ththis weekend’s NFL wild card playoff game between the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints. Nickelodeon will air a pregame special hosted by Denver Broncos star LB Von Miller.

The update is currently live in Madden NFL 21. EA says it will drop more content in the next few weeks, including gear capsules inspired by the show’s wide cast of characters. Hopefully, SpongeBob can avoid getting the Madden Curse.

Prepare your kids — SpongeBob SquarePants is now an Alexa skill
spongebob

Our children have already mastered the art of the touchscreen, deftly swiping their way across tablets and smartphones even before they've mastered the art of the crawl. And now, we'll be able to introduce them to yet another marvel of modern technology -- voice commands. Nickelodeon has unveiled the SpongeBob Challenge as part of its new Alexa skill meant specifically for kids. Because what better way to teach your kids to obey your commands than teaching them how to issue commands themselves?

In the SpongeBob Challenge Memory Game, children will find themselves in the midst of the SpongeBob SquarePants series, and will have the opportunity to become a new Krusty Krab restaurant employee. They may just emerge with a newfound respect for the service industry, as the game involves memorizing increasingly complicated food orders and relaying these orders to staff members, who include SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs.
