How to watch PlayStation’s March State of Play

Just a month after its last showcase, Sony already has another State of Play on the way. The snappy showcases typically provide looks into what the company has lined up for the next few months, usually including a good number of game announcements or release date reveals.

When is the March State of Play?

Sony isn’t giving the rumor mill much time to spin with its latest State of Play. The show is set to air today at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). While it’s later in the day for those on the east coast, this timeslot isn’t anything new for Sony’s State of Play showcases. Today’s State of Play will last a quick 20 minutes.

How can you watch the March State of Play?

Like all other PlayStation State of Play showcases, today’s will air on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels at the same time. However, one tends to be ahead of the other, so be sure to check both if you want to see the announcements as fast as possible.

What will be shown at the March State of Play?

Today’s State of Play is going to focus on PlayStation’s Japanese publishers, meaning we could easily see Capcom’s next-gen Resident Evil ports or even some footage of a Resident Evil 4 remake. We’ll also get some updates on games from other developers around the world too, so it’s extremely likely that Ghostwire: Tokyo will be shown at some point, especially with its release date coming up. As for a non-game announcement, Sony could also use this State of Play to reveal Spartacus, its rumored Game Pass competitor.

What we won’t be seeing any of during the State of Play is Sony’s upcoming VR headset, the PlayStation VR2, or its software. In its post announcing the show, Sony explicitly stated that it “won’t have any updates on PlayStation VR2 titles or hardware in this broadcast.”

In November, I reviewed the PlayStation Portal. I was mixed on Sony’s streaming handheld at the time, frustrated with a corner-cutting execution of a good idea. It seemed like a poor value compared to simply slapping a cheaper Backbone controller on a phone. As is often the case with tech reviews, though, I only had a short window to test it out where I was more focused on the more objective side of what the Portal does and doesn’t do. Would my feelings change when I was using it naturally?

I’ve gotten the answer to that question over the past few months. While I barely touched my Portal after reviewing it in 2023, it’s quickly become a go-to device in my home as of January. I’m now breaking it out at least once a week, finding some practical use cases for it. Though my overall assessment of it hasn’t changed, I have a more tangible understanding of where it can be a useful -- if superfluous -- PS5 companion. It’s a needless luxury, but one that I’m finding that I'm happy to indulge in.

The PlayStation Portal’s launch just so happened to come right before a major life change that would shift my perspective. After living alone for three years, my girlfriend moved into my apartment last December. It’s been a natural change that’s working great so far. That shift does come with some lifestyle changes, though. We’re both crammed into a one-bedroom apartment, which means we’re sharing a tight space. We remotely do our jobs feet apart in the same room, and most evenings are spent lounging on the couch.

PlayStation Plus’ most notable free April offerings come from Microsoft

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus. Meanwhile, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a tough 2D platformer roguelike that should entertain fans of that genre for quite some time.
