Valorant, Riot’s team-based shooter, is launching early on June 2

Valorant is getting an early launch next month.

Riot Games’ team-based shooter, which has been in closed beta since early April, will premiere on June 2, just ahead of its planned summer 2020 launch date, Valorant developers announced Thursday.

“We’ve been looking forward to sharing this game with everyone,” Game director Joe Ziegler said. “We’ve been wanting to get you this game to help brighten these tough times.”

Anna Donlon, Valorant executive producer, said the team hopes to support the game for “years, or even decades, to come.”

The game is a mix of elements of competitive shooters like Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and, of course, Riot Games’ biggest hit, League of Legends. Valorant features a 5v5 multiplayer mode where one team of unique characters with special abilities attacks and the other defends.

Valorant’s closed beta is set to wrap up on May 28.

Next week, Valorant gets its first new weapon since launch

A Valorant agent holds the new sniper rifle weapon Outlaw.

Valorant Episode 8 Act 1 begins next week, and today, Riot Games revealed that it will introduce a brand new weapon to the game. A double-barreled sniper rifle called the Outlaw, it is the first new weapon to come to Valorant since Riot Games released it in 2020.

As the third sniper rifle in Valorant, Outlaw stands out from the others because it's a two-shot weapon that doesn't break zoom when fired and has different reload times depending on how many shots are left. It'll cost 2,400 credits in the pre-round item shop, which puts it between the price tags of the other sniper rifles during a match.

Valorant’s newest agent can challenge other players to duels

Riot Games unveiled the next agent that's coming to Valorant when Episode 7 Act III begins on October 31. His name is Iso, and he's a duelist whose ultimate actually brings him and an opponent to a separate arena to face off.

Iso is described as a Chinese fixer for hire who can reconfigure ambient energy to his advantage and this can be seen through all of his abilities. Double Tap brings Iso into a flow state where he can gain a shield by killing or damaging downed enemies. Undercut fires a bolt forward, applying a fragile debuff to anything it hits. With Contingency, Iso creates a wall of energy and pushes it forward; it blocks any bullets that pass through it.

During the September 14 Nintendo Direct, publisher Riot Forge popped up with not one, but two announcements.
