The Klove Knob wants to use Alexa and Google Home to teach you how to cook

Klove Knob: The World's First Voice Assisted Cooking timer
It may look like nothing more than a knob, but don’t be fooled. The Klove Knob is actually the best thing that’s ever happened to your kitchen. Heralded as “an intelligent sous chef disguised as a stove knob,” the Klove promises to introduce voice-assisted interactive recipes, creativity, and fun to the most important room of your home. By connecting with Alexa and Google Home, the Klove can actually chat with you about your culinary endeavors and all your kitchen adventures.

Even if you’re an absolute novice in the kitchen, the Klove can help you play the part of the professional chef. The smart knob features an intelligent conversational cooking timer that can adjust itself based on the cooking vessel you select and the quantity of ingredients used. Thanks to its Internet of Things-enabled sensors, you won’t have to worry about burning a dish or having a pot boil over — the Klove will alert you to any potential mishaps. Plus, the more you use Klove, the better it understands your preferences (whether you like your steak medium-rare or well done) and your cooking patterns.

According to the Klove’s Indiegogo page, installation of the smart knob is quite straightforward. You’ll need to remove the existing knob on your stove, then fix the spindle adapter (included in your purchase) onto the spindle. Then, simply push the Klove onto the adapter, and you should be good to go.

Klove’s voice-enabled companion app turns on automatically whenever you turn the knob on, which means you’ll always be able to take advantage of its smart features in a hands-free manner. Just talk to the knob about the recipe you’d like to prepare, and follow the step-by-step instructions. Once you’re finished, the Klove will remind you to turn the stove off, too.

The smart knob’s battery promises to last for 30 months, and is also user replaceable. Currently, you can pre-order a Klove from its Indiegogo campaign page for $29, which is 40 percent off its retail price. These smart knobs come standard with a companion Android and iOS app, as well as Amazon Alexa and Google Home support. Shipment is anticipated for November of 2017.

The spooky season is almost here, and if you’re worried about throwing the perfect Halloween party, consider using your smart home to do the heavy lifting. Common smart home gadgets such as motion sensors, light bulbs, and smart plugs make it easy to pull off a horrifying Halloween party for your guests. From assisting with your playlist and movie selections to creating a chilling ambiance, here’s a look at all the ways your smart home can help you throw a killer Halloween party.
Use motion sensors to trigger spooky sounds
Have a smart home security system? Then you can probably rig up your motion sensors to play a spooky noise. It doesn't necessarily have to be a motion sensor, either -- your smart camera can trigger other devices in your smart home when it detects motion.

Just place a speaker on your porch, perhaps tucked away behind a pumpkin or a bit of straw. When a group of unsuspecting kids shows up to ask for candy, they set off the motion sensor on the camera, which triggers the speaker to play the sound of a zombie's moan or the cackle of a witch. Bonus points if you set up an animatronic hand to rise up out of the straw.
