We’ve all heard of people who play “air guitar” using a tennis racket, broom, frying pan, or almost any other convenient object which may be at hand; heck, we’ve maybe even heard of people entering contests for playing the best air guitar!
But we can’t imagine many people have imagined doing their best head-banging, stage-sliding, face-making antics with their…cell phone.
Nonetheless, Hands-On Mobile today announced an agreement with Activision to bring the company’s enormously popular Guitar Hero franchise to mobile phones. “Guitar Hero is an epic game experience that has mushroomed into a cultural phenomenon,” said Erik Pavelka, Hands-On Mobile’s VP of Business Development, in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring this award-winning franchise to mobile and to continue our successful relationship with Activision.”
Hands-On Mobile previously adapted Activision’s Call of Duty for mobile phones.
No estimated release dates or pricing has been announced, but the move makes some sense, considering the proliferation of music-capable music phones on the market: users may not be able to play along to their favorite riffs and tunes while brandishing a tiny plastic guitar-esque game controller, but phones’ increasingly sophisticated music capabilities might make a mobile game entertaining for folks who have no illusions about actually playing music.
(BTW: Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360 should hit the streets Wednesday. We understand real fans are already camped out for tickets and following the distribution trucks around in VW vans.)
