The Apple Watch is already gearing up to be the traveler’s best friend, as airlines, hotels, and other travel-related businesses are preparing their iOS apps to work with Apple’s new wearable. LoungeBuddy, an airport lounge listing app, and Booking Now, the spontaneous hotel booking app from Booking.com, announced support for the Apple Watch ahead of its ship date. Both apps will be available for download on April 24.

With the LoungeBuddy app, users can view and book airport lounges on the Apple Watch. Each lounge in LoungeBuddy’s database (and it’s extensive) is shown with details (amenities, location, pricing, etc.), and you can purchase passes to those that offer them. The app also supports the Apple Pay system.

Booking Now isn’t the first hotel booking app for the Apple Watch, but it’s the first that deals with last-minute lodging. Like its iPhone counterpart, you can choose a hotel based on the location you’re at. The app lists properties (one at a time) based on your preferences and any previous booking habits. Once a room is booked, the app displays turn-by-turn navigation for getting to the hotel. Users can also rate the hotel experience.

This YouTube Apple Watch app is just as ridiculous as you’d expect
this youtube apple watch app is just as ridiculous youd expect watchtube

The Apple Watch has allowed users to do everything from calling their family and friends to keeping tabs on their health. But its media streaming abilities have been restricted to music, podcasts, and audiobooks. That's about to change, as now you'll be able to watch your favorite YouTube videos on your wrist thanks to a new app called WatchTube.

Created by Hugo Mason, WatchTube gives access to every YouTube video through the app, and you can hear the videos either through the Apple Watch's built-in speaker or with a pair of Bluetooth headphones. However, the app cannot be linked to your YouTube account in any way as it's a third-party app that just happens to carry the word "Tube" in its name. That said, you'll still be able to search and subscribe to your favorite content creators.

The FDA just approved an Apple Watch app to track Parkinson’s disease

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given the green light to an Apple Watch app to monitor Parkinson's disease, developed by San Francisco-based startup Rune Labs. As reported by Reuters, the Apple Watch's pre-existing sensors can already detect falls, tremors, and other movement disorders consistent with symptoms of Parkinson's. But Rune Labs has taken things a step further with its app, gathering individual data on the symptoms patients experience so that it can be shared with doctors to determine the best course of treatment.

Brian Pepin, CEO of Rune Labs, said that the data Apple Watch gathers through its Parkinson's monitoring app will be combined with data from other sources, like brain implants. He also added that the app uses Rune Labs' StrivePD software to send doctors continuous streams of data to give more context to movement patterns. This provides more data than doctors would get from observing a patient coming in for a short clinical visit, as symptoms of Parkinson's disease change over time.
