Sick of throttling? MetroPCS now has unlimited 4G LTE plans for $50

Yes, offering its own prepaid plans is great and all, but T-Mobile hasn’t forgotten about its prepaid subsidiary, MetroPCS, and how it helped Magenta surpass Sprint as the top prepaid phone service in the U.S. You see, with 15.64 million subscribers, T-Mobile announced a few months ago that it is now the largest prepaid service provider in the United States. As such, perhaps in celebration of the milestone, MetroPCS lowered the price of its unlimited 4G LTE data plan to $50 a month — for a limited time, of course.

Normally going for $60 a month, the unlimited 4G LTE plan ensures that users’ data is never throttled. In other words, unlike other data plans, which see declined speeds after customers use a certain amount of data, MetroPCS’s plan is truly unlimited. In order to take advantage of the plan, however, you must purchase a 4G LTE-capable smartphone from MetroPCS, so if you’re planning to bring your own phone and take advantage of the rate plan, you’re out of luck.

Alongside the discounted rate plan announcement are two smartphones: the Samsung Galaxy Light and LG Optimus F60. Anyone who is either activating a new line or upgrading their smartphone before April 5 can nab the handsets for $50 and $60, respectively.

The Galaxy Light is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The 4-inch screen has a 800 × 480 pixel resolution and a 233 pixel-per-inch density. It’s running Android 4.4.2 KitKat and packs 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB. The phone also sports a 5-megapixel shooter.

The LG Optimus F60, meanwhile, is powered by the quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, which is also coupled with 1GB of RAM. Screen size goes up half an inch, though the resolution remains the same, which lowers the pixel density to 207 ppi. The MicroSD card slot also takes cards up to 32GB in size, which, coupled with the 4GB of internal storage, should hold a good number of pictures and apps. There’s also a 5-megapixel rear camera, and finally, Android 4.4.2 KitKat onboard.

The new unlimited 4G LTE rate plan is now available. You can check it out on the MetroPCS website.
