Samsung lays into Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon in single TV ad

Perhaps in an effort to reduce marketing costs, or maybe because it just felt like it, Samsung has rolled out a new television ad that takes a pop at not one, not even two, but three competitors.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense to lay into a few rival companies in a single ad. I mean, why waste 60 seconds on mocking only Apple? Why not throw in Microsoft and Amazon, too?

The new ad (you can check it out below), which first aired on Thursday, highlights the tech giant’s Galaxy Pro series of tablets in a number of scenes featuring regular folk in regular situations.

Each scene has someone using either the Galaxy Tab Pro or Galaxy Note Pro alongside another person with either an iPad, Surface, or Kindle e-reader.

Of course, Samsung works it to show up a range of what it perceives to be weaknesses in its rivals’ offerings – so, for example, the iPad “can’t do two things at once,” the Surface tablet is more like a laptop because “it has a keyboard, a battery dock, and a mouse,” and the Kindle’s not up to much because it can’t play YouTube videos. When asked what it can do, the e-reader owner shoots back a one-word answer: “Books.”

The Seoul-based electronics company appears to love making fun of rival products and those that buy them, with Apple often in its crosshairs. While a couple of ads released last month had the Korean company ridiculing the iPhone 5S and iPad Air, Samsung has evidently decided to take on everyone at once, confident that its new Galaxy Pro devices are good enough to beat the competition.

Don’t pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S24 at Amazon
A person holding the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra using the Circle to Search feature.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 line of smartphones has been announced, and time is running out to get a pre-order. The phone is officially available January 30, so these phone deals are only available for another day. One of the more tantalizing and obvious offers is at Amazon, where you can get a $50, $150 or $200 Amazon gift card when you buy the S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra, respectively. Sounds like free money, right? Maybe, but there's a better deal on Samsung's site. Let's break it down.

Why you should pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S24 at Samsung
Buy something from the Samsung Galaxy S24 range and you’re scoring one of the best phones out there. That’s going to be good at any price but why not save even more by buying through Samsung?

This old Samsung smartwatch still tugs at my heartstrings
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro against some leaves.

When I put on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, I promptly forgot about the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. I know it exists because Samsung still sells it, but it has been entirely replaced in my mind by the latest stunning Samsung smartwatch.

But the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is still a current model that Samsung actively sells, so was I right to ignore it? I’ve been wearing it again to find out if you should buy it or politely pass it by in favor of the Watch 6 Classic.
Still so good to wear

An alleged photo of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is one of the most anticipated smartphone launches of the coming year. As we approach the likely launch date, more rumors and leaks about the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have surfaced. The latest comes from leaker Ahmed Qwaider on X, formerly Twitter.

This new rumor suggests that Samsung has taken inspiration from the iPhone 15 series and will feature a 24MP default camera resolution on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This is a significant upgrade from the current Galaxy S23 Ultra, which has a default camera resolution of 12MP.
