T-Mobile Rolls Out New Smartphones

T-Mobile today made available the T-Mobile SDA, a Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone, for $249.99. The SDA will be joined on Feb. 21 by the QWERTY keyboard enabled T-Mobile MDA handheld.

The SDA and MDA, said T-Mobile, are both EDGE- and GPRS-capable and come with integrated Wi-Fi. Other features include MP3 playback capabilities, a 1.3 megapixel camera for capturing still images and video clips, external music shortcut keys, synchronization with Microsoft Outlook and a removable Mini SD memory card.

“In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, staying connected to those who matter most is not easy,” said John Clelland, Senior Vice President, Marketing, T-Mobile USA, in a statement. “With the T-Mobile SDA and the T-Mobile MDA, customers can stay in touch with loved ones while keeping up with clients and colleagues.”

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy declares the "Babel" fish to be "probably the oddest thing in the Universe." It's described as a "leech-like" fish that fits into your ear, feeds off of the brainwaves in the surroundings, and then defecates inside your ear to produce sounds in a language that you understand. Effectively, it is a very gross and flagrant, but extremely sophisticated device for real-time translation.

Nearly half a century after Douglas Adams wrote the mind-bending and earth-shatteringly (literally) convulsive saga, the concept of a Babel fish still feels highly spellbinding. While we are still not so close to the brainwave-to-defecations level of immediate translations, a bunch of gadgets are chasing that problem in a much less disgusting way. Google's Interpreter mode and Samsung's Galaxy AI are prime examples of translation technologies that are readily available, but a few brands want to tackle the issue separately from the smartphone. Timekettle is one of those brands, and its latest X1 Interpreter hub is a handheld device that claims to do it differently (read: better) using AI.

I wish I could buy Huawei’s new Pura 70 phones

Huawei has pretty much been removed from the U.S. smartphone market after being sanctioned by the former Trump administration nearly five years ago. But in its home country of China, it has frequent run-ins with Apple for the top spot. Besides a sense of nationalism, Huawei's success is backed by phones that offer top-notch design, exceptional cameras, and extremely unique features. We see these traits once again on the latest Huawei Pura 70 series that launched in China today as a successor to the photography-centric P60 lineup from last year.

Huawei's Pura 70 series has four phones: the regular Pura 70, the Pura 70 Pro, the Pura 70 Pro+, and the Pura 70 Ultra. Being a camera-centric series, the phones feature a distinct triangular camera arrangement, while the Ultra -- the top-of-the-line model -- also comes with a retractable lens similar to digital cameras for finer focus.

Android 15 might add a new way to charge your gadgets

Wireless charging has been a fringe feature for over a decade, despite Apple's push into the ecosystem with the iPhone X and its later adoption of MagSafe. It has been limited to flagship phones, save for a few exceptions, mostly due to the painfully slow charging speeds. But with Android 15, Google now seems to offer phone makers additional reasons to adopt wireless charging even without dedicated hardware.

Instead of relying on a dedicated charging coil, Android 15 could enable wireless charging on phones with Near Field Communications (or NFC) tech. Android Authority dug up instances from the source code of Android 15's first user beta, which arrived last week, that suggests the implementation.
