Lighter than Air? Here’s Sony’s Xperia Z2 Tablet next to the latest iPad

We had a few minutes to check out the new Xperia Z2 Tablet at Sony’s event today, and were impressed by how thin and fast it is. And surprisingly, it still looked great when we put it side by side with an iPad Air, which is one of the best-looking tablets around. Measuring in at a scant 6.4mm thick and 426grams, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is a full millimeter thinner than the iPad Air and about 44 grams lighter, too. In the shots above, you can see that the Z is a lot longer than the iPad, but matches or exceeds it in most other physical categories. It appears to be a refined version of the Tablet Z, complete with the processing power of an extremely powerful Android phone. If only Sony would tell us the price.

Apple’s new iPad Pro and iPad Air just got delayed

It seems like the countdown to the next iPad reveal has been stretched out a bit more, though not by an earth-shattering amount of time. So far, we’ve heard rumors of a late March or early April reveal, but that likely won’t happen, according to a new report from Apple insider Mark Gurman.

In his latest Bloomberg report, Gurman says the next Apple tablets should arrive in early May, and he cited the speeding up of production at Apple’s suppliers. Interestingly, production-related challenges apparently pushed back the launch of the new slates across the Pro and Air lineups.

You may have to wait a while longer for new iPads

Just days ago, the Chinese website IT Home said Apple would announce the launch of its 2024 iPads on Tuesday, March 26. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman — who still believes new iPads will arrive this spring — has debunked this rumor. In other words, we'll probably have to wait a little longer for new Apple tablets to arrive.

Gurman had previously stated that Apple's next-generation tablets would arrive in late March or April. Of the March 26 rumor, Gurman took to X, formerly Twitter, to say it was "not true."

This is when Apple will finally release its new 2024 iPads

It's been a long time since Apple introduced a new iPad — October 2022, to be precise. In his latest newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reinforces his belief that Apple will finally reveal new iPads this spring, perhaps as early as the end of this month.

The Apple expert had previously noted that Apple would release new MacBook Airs and iPads at the beginning of the year. The first part of this promise came to fruition earlier this month when Apple revealed the M3 MacBook Air.
