Advance sales foreshadow huge opening for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is expected to be a box-office hit, you never truly know how a movie will perform until the numbers start pouring in. That said, Deadline reports that the early ticket sales for this superhero battle royale show dollars stacking up faster than a speeding bullet.

Two weeks out from its March 25, 2016 release, the film is outpacing box-office behemoths like DeadpoolThe Avengers, and Furious 7, which opened to the tune of $132.4 million, $207.4 million, and $147.1 million, respectively. All three of those films have broken box-office records and the last two on the list rank in the top six in terms of all-time box office gross.

Sure, it’s still early, but If you were to race Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, and Michael Johnson, and you immediately sprinted out to a lead, you’d feel pretty darn good about yourself.

If Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman generates anything north of $152 million on its opening weekend, it will claim the crown for the biggest pre-summer opening weekend of all-time and — at this point — that’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

Though the hard numbers aren’t yet available, one Warner Bros. analyst estimates the film has already generated between $20 and $25 million, a figure that is comparable to the advanced ticket sales for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, which posted a $160 million opening weekend. Driving these early figures are males aged 14-49, who make up a disproportionate chunk of the advance purchases.

All along, the buzz around this film has been akin to the energy surrounding a big-time heavyweight fight and it’s not surprising that the hype is now translating into big bucks. While only time will tell if the film can sustain these massive numbers throughout its theatrical run, the early returns — as a CNN political analyst might say — are looking very good.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016. Stay tuned for updates.

How to watch Canelo vs. Charlo: Date, time, PPV price and undercard
Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo face off on a promotional poster.

We have an undisputed super middleweight fight this weekend! Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) is defending all four of his belts against Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs) in a Premier Boxing Champions fight card. This is Canelo's third fight since his loss to Dmitrii Bivol in May of 2022. Charlo's last actual fight was that same month, so he's coming out of quite a layoff. Charlo is also an undisputed champion -- he has all four super welterweight belts -- but only Canelo's titles are on the line in this fight.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo will start on Saturday, September 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET. It's a PPV event on Showtime, and there are some exciting undercard fights leading up to the main event. Here's everything you need to know to watch boxing online this weekend.

10 biggest sci-fi hits of all time, ranked by adjusted box-office gross
C-3PO, R2-D2, Luke, and Leia staring out at space in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back."

Thanks to Box Office Mojo, fans can see exactly how their favorite movies' box office numbers translate to the current dollar value. Since some of the most notable sci-fi movies came out decades ago, their listed gross numbers can be a bit misleading. For example, George Lucas' landmark achievement Star Wars was released in 1977. Due to inflation since then, the buying power of $1 in 1977 is equal to about $5.25 in 2023. That's a significant difference!

The biggest domestic sci-fi hits of all time when adjusted by box-office gross reveal how a few franchises have a viselike hold on the genre. Here are the top 10 sci-fi hits of all time when adjusted for inflation based on the 2022 ticket price.
