New ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 8 photos tease answers to big questions

A fresh episode of Game of Thrones is on the way, and HBO has offered a new look at what lies ahead. The premium network has unveiled five new photos of scenes from Sunday’s episode, No One. If you’re not up to date, be warned: Spoilers are coming.

Last week brought everything from (yet another) return by a character presumed dead to the potential killing of a key player. Naturally, these events have raised big questions, and we look to episode 8 to start answering them. It is inevitable that still more will be raised, but that is all part of the fun.

The episode’s title, No One, makes clear reference to Arya Stark’s recent dealing with the Faceless Men, so it is no surprise that she is mentioned in the official synopsis alongside other central characters:

While Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) weighs his options, Cersei (Lena Headey) answers a request. Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) plans bear fruit. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a new test.

Unfortunately, the new batch of photos does not show any signs of Arya, so it is unclear how she fares after having been viciously attacked by the Waif in episode 7. She is not the only one missing, either; although we learned The Hound is alive, the images do not include anything from his new revenge mission. Instead, the photos are very Lannister-focused: Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion, and Lancel (Eugene Simon) are all pictured. The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), and Varys (Conleth Hill) appear as well.

Last we saw Jaime, he was at Riverrun figuring out what to do with Blackfish Tully (Clive Russell), and Brienne’s appearance will only complicate the matter. Meanwhile, Cersei and The Mountain will keep things interesting back in King’s Landing, with Cersei facing off against her one-time lover Lancel. Tyrion, on the other hand, will take to the streets of Meereen with Varys.

Game of Thrones season 6, episode 8 airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

5 questions we have after Succession season 4, episode 1
Logan Roy in his office, looking out the glass wall in Succession.

HBO’s Succession is back for its fourth and final season, and the Roy children are looking for vengeance. After being betrayed by their father Logan, and unexpectedly by Tom, the episode begins with the trio discussing options about starting their own modern, hip media company to compete with their father. As is typical with the billionaire family, however, it’s about more than success: it’s about greed, money, power, and hitting the other where it hurts.

Based on the events that occurred in the tense first episode of the fourth season, the constant one-upping will continue until either Logan or his kids are in ruins. Following the final moments and exchange of words when Logan loses the bid for Pierce Media, fans have a lot of questions about what will unfold.
Why did Tom tip Shiv off in episode 1 of Succession season 4?

The Last of Us episode 9 trailer teases an explosive season one finale
A young girl stares and looks in the Last of Us.

One of 2023's most acclaimed shows is almost over. After a terrific run of episodes, The Last of Us will conclude its first season with an explosive finale this Sunday night. In the episode 9 trailer, Joel (The Mandalorian season 3’s Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey) make their final trek to Salt Lake City to meet up with a group of Fireflies who may be able to create a cure for the Cordyceps infection. As Ellie says to Joel in the footage, "There's no halfway with this. We finish what we started."

Fans of the video games will notice a familiar face in the episode 9 trailer. Ashley Johnson, who portrayed Ellie in the video games, will play Anna, Ellie's mother, in episode 9. The tense footage shows Anna writhing in pain as she tries to stave off an infected woman.

Star Wars’ distant past has potential for Game of Thrones-like drama
A collage of characters in "Star Wars: The Old Republic" promo art.

While pondering yet another big IP Disney+ series can seem like an exhaustive thought considering its current breakneck output, Andor's critical success for both the streaming platform and the Star Wars franchise as a whole gives a taste of the potential that the Old Republic could provide to a TV series. That's in addition to the benefit of being heavily separated from the Skywalker Saga legacy.

No series needs to be darker and more serious to be inherently better, but the level of tension and drama found in Cassian Andor's gritty origin story should be a seamless fit somewhere within the literal thousands of years worth of history in Star Wars' distant past. In the Old Republic, there's no shortage of Jedi, Sith, intergalactic factions, political intrigue, and more that could give Disney+ and Lucasfilm a major and long-running Game of Thrones-level drama to keep audiences reeled in season in and season out.
