AllTrails real-time air quality data helps outdoor enthusiasts avoid pollution

If you’ve ever gone for a hike during peak allergy season or taken a stroll down city streets at rush hour, you may have experienced breathing issues. While evaluating distance, elevation, and difficulty is standard when scouting out area hiking or jogging trails, pollution is one factor most people don’t even consider. AllTrails has recently partnered with BreezeoMeter to help you rethink when — and where — you travel, with real-time air quality data to help you avoid pollution.

AllTrails is one of the most comprehensive guides to the outdoors accessible from your smartphone, offering more than 50,000 trail maps and boasting more than six million registered users. The company’s goal is to provide you with all the tools you need to hit the trails, encouraging you to get outdoors. The application registers your location and provides you with nearby trailheads, including driving directions that when downloaded continue to work offline. Map overlays allow you to see topography, satellite, and other layers that provide information about each trail — now including air quality.

AllTrails Pro users can now select their hike, run, or bike ride taking air quality into consideration on account of a partnership with BreezoMeter and the development of a color-coded air pollution map. BreezoMeter gives companies accurate pollutant concentrations and forecast using government sensors, weather, and other tools, serving as the world leader in hyperlocal real-time air quality data.

“With air pollution becoming an increased health concern, this data is integral to informing our users of local air quality conditions and keeping outdoor enthusiasts healthy while out on the trails,” stated AllTrails CMO Ron Schneidermann in a news release.

Air quality is a dynamic factor, changing throughout the day depending on traffic, weather, environmental factors, and other natural events, necessitating the need for an adaptable map overlay. BreezoMeter’s algorithms change regularly, taking into account 17 different pollutants and three different types of pollen. The air quality map overlay shows users which areas are heavily polluted and should be avoided depending on the time of day, so that you can hit the trails and breathe easier (literally).

AllTrails Pro is available as an annual subscription for $30 per year on iOS and Android.

Aventon e-bike Level 2 riding on the trail

While there are a few e-bike brands, one we tend to feel favorable about is Aventon. In August, for example, we gave the Aventon Ramblas eMTB e-bike four and a half stars in our review. In 2023, we also gave the Aventon Soltera.2 city e-bike four and a half stars. We liked Aventon e-bikes so much that we even ditched our car for a whole month. So, you better believe when there's a great deal on Aventon's excellent e-bikes we're going to shout it from the rooftops. That's exactly what's happening right now. Two of Aventon's best, the Pace 500 and the Level 2, are discounted by $200 and $300 respectively. One is a versatile anywhere bike, while the other is best for long-range rides and commutes. This trail-tested, road ready Aventon e-bike is $200 off — We gave it 4.5 stars
Aventon Ramblas eMTB e-bike for trail and off-road rides

At the risk of repeating myself, we are rather fond of Aventon e-bikes here at Digital Trends. They tend to review favorably because of how much value they offer. Take the Ramblas eMTB e-bike, for instance. We gave it four and a half stars in our review back in August. Resident reviewer and e-bike expert, Bruce Brown, praised it for its "strong hardtail" frame, excellent mid-drive torque, strong stopping power, smooth ride experience, and competitive pricing. The latter is a real highlight, but get this, it's also on sale right now for $200 off. So, that competitive pricing is even more enticing. Normally $2,899, it's down to $2,699 thanks to a big sale, saving you $200. Check out that sale for yourself, otherwise let's discuss why this is such a great e-bike, especially if you like trail riding.

MOD Easy Sidecar Sahara limited edition e-bike.

Mod Bikes has introduced the Mod Easy Sidecar Sahara, a limited-edition sidecar-style cargo e-bike modeled on the 1940s BMW R75 Sahara motorcycle. On November 9, 2024, Mod will exhibit the Sidecar Sahara at the Electrify Expo at the Circuit of the Americas racetrack in Austin, Texas.
Mod does sidecars

The BMW R 75 Sahara, which inspired the limited-edition e-bike, is a highly collectible motorcycle. Mod Bikes is one of the few e-bike manufacturers that sells e-bikes with sidecars in the U.S., along with other styles. The versatile Easy Sidecar models transform in just a few minutes from a sidecar e-bike to a standard, two-wheel e-bike. However, the sidecar configuration is fun for carrying pets, children, small adults, and groceries or other cargo.
