Samsung’s Galaxy S11 phones will reportedly have a 108-megapixel camera

Samsung’s next set of flagship phones have begun to take shape in bits and pieces as we inch closer to their launch. A new report by Bloomberg sheds further light on the Galaxy S11 series’ headlining camera features and what lies underneath that humongous bump on their backs.

As per the report, Samsung’s 2020 Galaxy flagships will likely have a primary 108-megapixel camera accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens that will be capable of 5x optical zoom. On top of that, there will be a Time-Of-Flight sensor, an increasingly common component that’s also found on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 and allows phones to more accurately calculate the depth between the subject and background for better portrait shots as well as augmented reality functions.

The leak also claims Samsung’s rumored second-gen foldable phone will house a similar set of camera hardware and will be announced around the same time as the Galaxy S11 lineup in February next year. Plus, previous reports have suggested the Samsung Galaxy Fold’s successor will feature a clamshell design and will work similarly to Motorola’s latest Razr phone.

Samsung, incidentally, announced an in-house 108-megapixel camera sensor back in August which has already made its first commercial appearance on Xiaomi’s Mi Note 10 phone. It remains unclear whether the Galaxy S11 will have the same sensor or an upgraded version of it. Samsung’s Galaxy flagships have employed an identical 12-megapixel sensor since 2016, therefore this will be a significant step forward for the lineup.

Bloomberg’s reveal falls largely in line with and corroborates the rest of the leaks and renders we’ve seen so far.

In addition to these, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is expected to be capable of 8K video recording and will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 865 chipset in some regions and Samsung’s own Exynos 990 in others.

Another highlight of the new phones will reportedly be their battery life. The smallest model, the Galaxy S11e will run on a 4000mAh pack (900mAh more than the Galaxy S10e) and largest, Galaxy S11+ might have a 5000mAh battery. They will come in three different sizes and five variants, some of which will be compatible with 5G networks.
