Opera Files EU Complaint Against Microsoft

Internet Explorer has landed Microsoft in hot water once again. Nearly 10 years after the original United States v. Microsoft suit that accused Microsoft of stifling competition by bundling a browser with its Windows operating system, a remarkably similar case has cropped in Europe.

Opera Software, a Norwegian company which makes it own browser, has brought a complaint against Microsoft to the European Commission, alleging that Microsoft’s bundling  violates laws. According to the Associated Press, Opera has also accused Microsoft of sabotaging the efforts of other companies to make browsers by failing to adhere to Web standards.

Microsoft’s business tactics have also stirred up trouble in EU in the past. An antitrust suit that wrapped up in September left the company with a €497 million fine and forced it to release a new version of Windows without an included media player.

Microsoft Edge has a new trick for increased performance
Edge Browser

The Microsoft Edge browser is now even more optimized and has a bit higher performance on Windows. That's thanks to changes in version 102 of the browser, which can now automatically compress disk caches.

Microsoft talked about this in a technical post, explaining that its overall goal is to "deliver the best performing browser possible on Windows and other platforms." In what seems like a shot at Google Chrome, Microsoft also mentioned that they're aware that when a web browser consumed too many resources, the system can be slowed down. That's where disk caching comes into play.
