AT&T’s New Data Plans Explained

— The current plan provides unlimited data usage for $30 per month. If you’re a current customer, you can keep it.

— A new plan called DataPlus will provide 200 megabytes of data for $15 per month. If you go over, you pay another $15 for 200 megabytes. AT&T says this plan will suffice for people who surf the Web, send e-mail and use applications like Facebook. The data allowance is enough for 1,000 e-mails without attachments, or 400 Web pages, but only 20 minutes of streaming video.

— A plan called DataPro will provide 2 gigabytes of data per month (10 times more than DataPlus) for $25 per month. If you go over, you pay another $10 for 1 gigabyte. AT&T says 98 percent of smart phone users use less than 2 gigabytes, which is the equivalent of more than three hours of streaming video.

The prices are in addition to the voice part of the plan, which costs at least $40 per month, plus taxes and fees that vary by jurisidiction. Data use over Wi-Fi does not count towards the limits.

It's also great for those who want to host their own media server to share with friends or family while not impacting anybody else in the home. You also get a lot of great freebies included here, such as the choice of either a $300 Target gift card or a $350 value Samsung Chromebook Go, which is admittedly an entry-level device, but it's not bad to use for just streaming content. On top of that, you can choose between 2TB of Verizon cloud storage and 12 months of Disney+ with no ads or a MoCA Ethernet Adapter for gaming and a $50 Xbox eGift Card. You could also get both of these if you add an extra $10/month, although it's probably not worth it at that point.

1 Gigabit Verizon Fios connection -- $65 per month + free extras
If the super-fast speeds aren't necessarily needed, especially if you're in a smaller household without too many folks watching content, then the 1 Gigabit version is the way to go. It is $20 cheaper, so it's a lot of money that you're saving over the course of the year, and you still get quite a few extra benefits, even at this level. You get to choose either a $200 Target gift card or the same sort of Samsung Chromebook Go that's worth $350 that's great for streaming content. You also get a similar choice as the 2 Gigabit connection, which includes either 2TB of Verizon cloud storage and six months of Disney+ without ads, or a MoCA Ethernet Adapter for gaming and a $50 Xbox eGift Card.

Apple may release a completely new type of iPhone in 2025

The iPhone 16 isn’t even out yet, but that hasn’t stopped rumors about the iPhone 17 from swirling already. One of the latest comes from The Information, and it claims that a thinner iPhone 17 may be released in 2025 as a completely new addition to the lineup. It’s reported to be code-named D23 internally, and it’s expected to be a major redesign — potentially as big of a redesign as the iPhone X was in 2017.

The main changes for the D23 iPhone are a very thin body and a smaller cutout in the display. There’s also some talk that Apple may replace the Dynamic Island with a pinhole cutout, and we may see that as soon as the anticipated iPhone 16 launch this fall. Other changes might include moving the rear camera from the upper-left corner to the top center. The screen could fall somewhere between the 6.1 inches of the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9 inches of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
