You can now stream your GoPro adventures in realtime with the Livestream iPhone app

When GoPro announced its new 4K-capable Hero4+ and the touchscreen model Hero4, there was one thing missing from the specs list: live streaming. Considering that Sony had implemented a live streaming function in its new Action Cam Mini only a short while ago, it seemed reasonable to expect the same functionality from GoPro.

Now, if you’re a GoPro user and have been waiting for a live streaming feature to be added to your favorite action cam, wait no longer, as Livestream has just added GoPro compatibility to its iOS app. What that means is that when you pair your GoPro with your iPhone, you can stream your wingsuit jump to the Internet in realtime using the Livestream app.

All you need for that is the app, which is free on iTunes, a compatible iOS device running system 6.1 or later, and a 4G connection that is capable of transferring the data in realtime. Your potential audience can then watch your stunts live via Livestream.com or using the Livestream app, provided they have installed it on their devices.

The newly added GoPro compatibility was demonstrated live over at Livestream.com on October 6 during a kitesurfing event on Coney Island, NY. You can re-watch it on Livestream’s website to get an idea of what is possible with the app and a GoPro camera.

The iPhone 13 Pro may be Apple’s latest smartphone, but its camera isn’t a big upgrade over the iPhone 12 Pro. So where does that leave Apple when it competes with the newly released Google Pixel 6 Pro? The iPhone and the Pixel have long fought for camera supremacy, and if the 13 Pro can’t always best its predecessor, can it at least beat Google’s latest model? To find out, I took both phones out for a couple of days to take a selection of photos, and the outcome may come as a surprise to some.
Camera specs and testing procedure
Before we look at the photos, let’s check the specs of each camera. The Google Pixel 6 Pro has a 50-megapixel main camera joined by a 48MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom, plus a 12MP wide-angle camera. The Apple iPhone 13 Pro has three 12MP cameras, with the telephoto providing a 3x zoom, and the wide-angle camera a 120-degree field of view.

The iPhone 13 Pro has iOS 15.1 installed, and the Google Pixel 6 Pro has Android 12. All photos were taken back-to-back, and all I did was press the shutter button. Once the shots had been taken, I compared them all on a color-calibrated monitor. You’re seeing the original photos below, just slightly resized to make them more suitable for online use.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra has the best camera Samsung has made yet, and it remains one of our favorite camera phones. Its biggest rival for the crown of “best camera on a smartphone,” the Apple iPhone 12 Pro, has now been replaced in the range by the iPhone 13 Pro, making it essential to put the two cameras up against each other.

Samsung’s hard work paid off on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but will it now have to play catch-up to Apple’s newer iPhone? The 13 Pro’s camera has generated plenty of hype, but as you'll see, the Galaxy S21 Ultra is not only still a winner, it has the new iPhone beaten in several important areas.
The cameras and the test
All photos taken for this comparison were shot over the course of a single day, with all using the standard Photo mode on both phones, and without any editing afterward. Do be aware the photos have been resized to make them suitable for viewing online. Before they were resized, the photos were compared on a color-calibrated monitor.

Apple announced the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro during its California Streaming launch event on September 14, confirming long-standing rumors. The iPhone 13 series takes mobile tech to a new level in many ways, but perhaps the most exciting upgrades come in the new capabilities of their cameras. The advanced optics and sensors push the boundaries of what a compact mobile device is capable of.

Between the four different models of the iPhone 13, you will find two different camera systems: A dual-camera system in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, and a triple-camera system in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Previously, the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max featured different cameras, and you had to opt for the larger and more expensive Pro Max to get the best iPhone camera. With the iPhone 13, it's possible to purchase the more pocketable (and affordable) iPhone 13 Pro and not sacrifice camera features (except in one minor regard).
