Carmakers love to use bits of their own histories as the bases for special-edition models, but it’s rare for one of these collector’s items to commemorate a tire company.
Lamborghini’s relationship with Pirelli goes back to the original 350 GTV prototype, so the Italian carmaker decided a special Aventador Pirelli edition was appropriate.
Available this summer, the Pirelli Edition adds some unique styling elements to Lambo’s flagship supercar, which wasn’t exactly a wallflower to begin with.
There are two available versions. The first gets a matte black-painted roof, engine cover, and air intakes, while the rest of the body gets a high-gloss paint finish in one of six colors. The second option swaps things, with a gloss black roof and matte bodywork in one of four colors.
Both versions feature red striping and, of course, Pirelli P Zero tires.
There’s a similar motif on the inside as well. Black Alcantara seats feature red stitching and both Lamborghini and Pirelli crests. The exterior striping is also mired on the ceiling and seats, and a plaque confirms each car’s specialness.
No mechanical changes were made, so the Pirelli Edition features the same 6.5-liter V12 as the stock Aventador LP700-4.
It sends 691 horsepower and 507 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission, hurling the Aventador from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, and on to a Lamborghini-estimated top speed of 217 mph.
The Aventador Pirelli Edition is available in both coupe and roadster body styles. Lamborghini is taking orders now, with deliveries set to begin in summer 2015.
