Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s 3rd DLC goes wild with dragons, vikings, and zombies

Fans are already eagerly anticipating this fall’s upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but in the meantime they can look forward to Descent, the third DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which is arriving later this summer, according to Activision.

Descent adds four new multiplayer maps, along with a brand new zombies experience. The new maps are as follows:

  • Empire is a remake of fan-favorite Black Ops II map Raid. This medium-sized map spans an authentic Roman villa, which was “recreated by a modern-day eccentric billionaire.” Black Ops III offered a host of new movement mechanics that add more verticality to the series’ action formula, so this remake will allow for a whole new perspective on a familiar environment.
  • Cryogen is more in line with Black Ops III‘s futuristic setting as an off-shore cryogenic prison facility where dangerous criminals are frozen for safe keeping. The small, circular map is ringed with sentry towers that will drive the action towards the central cryogenic tubes for frenetic fights.
  • Berserk is a total change of pace as “a Viking village frozen in time” that’s guarded by “ancient sentinels from a lost civilization.” This medium map is tightly-packed with wooden buildings and rocky outcroppings, centered around a bridge, which means plenty of chokepoints.
  • Rumble goes back to the future with a medium-sized map set in a stadium for giant robot fights–think BattleBots writ large. Players face off in the arena among the fallen husks of giant robot brawlers.

Descent will also continue the Origins Zombie saga with a new chapter, Gorod Krovi, set in an alternate universe 1940s Soviet Union. History nerds will appreciate that, just like in the real Soviet Union, players will have to work together to hold back hordes of “mechanized zombie infantry” and “aerial dragon assaults” in the ruins of Stalingrad.

Descent is available now for PlayStation 4, and will follow on Xbox One and PC in August. It can be purchased as part of the $50 Season Pass bundle, or à la carte for $15.

The debate around GTA 6's "physical" edition just got another twist. Rockstar has confirmed on its official website that PS5 download codes included with physical copies of Grand Theft Auto VI sold in Japan will expire 170 days after the game's November 19, 2026 launch date. That means players who don't redeem the code before roughly May 8, 2027 could be left with nothing more than an empty game box, even though they purchased a physical copy. The company says the policy is required due to regional regulations in Japan.

Lenovo’s $99 280Hz gaming monitor is built for the ramen-budget crowd
Lenovo is selling a 280Hz monitor for less than GTA 6 Ultimate Edition
Lenovo gaming monitor render

Fresh off launching a metallic Hall-effect keyboard and a 59g gaming mouse for flashy esports setups, Lenovo has turned its attention to gamers working with much tighter budgets. The Legion 24-1r looks made for broke college students who spent way too much on their first gaming rig and now have instant noodles doing most of the heavy lifting at dinner. It costs just 669 yuan, equivalent to around $99, yet offers a 23.8-inch IPS panel running at up to 280Hz.

Lenovo is also offering the 27-inch Legion 27-1r with the same core specifications for 789 yuan, or roughly $116. For the ramen-budget crowd chasing competitive frame rates, both look like seriously tempting deals. (via NotebookCheck)
