Xbox One S hardware bundle includes cross-platform ‘Minecraft’, added content

Microsoft will launch a new Xbox One S hardware bundle at the end of September that includes downloadable copies of Minecraft for the Xbox One and Windows 10, along with an array of bonus Minecraft-themed goodies.

The package is one of Microsoft’s first hardware bundles to feature its upgraded Xbox One S console, which boasts 4K video playback and other technical improvements.

Microsoft’s upcoming hardware bundle follows up on Minecraft‘s 2014 Xbox One debut. Initially available for PC platforms, Minecraft saw numerous console ports in recent years, inspiring young players to create and maintain thousands of blocky virtual worlds across the Wii U, PlayStation 4, and other supported platforms.

Microsoft purchased Minecraft and creator Mojang for a total of $2.5 billion in 2014, and the company has greatly expanded Minecraft‘s reach over the last year. 2015 saw the launch of a Windows 10 version of Minecraft, which recently introduced Oculus Rift support.

Minecraft‘s Windows 10 port appears to be a particular focus for Microsoft, as digital codes for both the Xbox One and Windows 10 editions are included as part of the bundle. While the Windows 10 version supports cross-platform play with Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, the game does not currently allow Xbox One and Windows 10 users to play together.

In addition to serving up digital codes for Minecraft, the upcoming Xbox One S bundle includes Minecraft‘s digital Favorites Pack, which adds seven “community-favorite” batches of downloadable content to the base game, including the popular Halo Mash-up and Festive Mash-up packs. The bundle also includes the Builder’s Pack, which collects six add-ons including the Biome Settlers and Greek Mythology Mash-up packs.

The Xbox One S Minecraft Favorites bundle is available for pre-order via Amazon for $300 and is due to launch in North America on September 27. The bundle will ship to the U.K. and select European territories on October 11. A release for Australia and New Zealand is set for November 1.

The Game Boy Advance is celebrating its 25th anniversary in the US, and while Nintendo has largely chosen to honor the handheld through its Switch Online library, another company has decided to recreate the hardware itself. Chinese handheld maker Ayaneo has unveiled the Konkr Pocket Advance, a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Game Boy Advance that updates almost every part of the original while preserving the horizontal design that made Nintendo's console so beloved.

Rather than building a nostalgia piece that simply looks like the original, Ayaneo is targeting the growing retro gaming market with modern hardware. The Konkr Pocket Advance features a higher-resolution display, additional controls, USB-C connectivity and wireless support, making it less of a replica and more of a contemporary handheld inspired by one of gaming's most influential consoles.

Sony’s ultra-fast OLED gaming monitor has finally made its way to store shelves. A few months after announcing the INZONE M10S II, the company has started shipping the esports-focused monitor across major global markets. Buyers in the US can purchase the monitor for $1,099.99. It costs £1,199 in the UK, while customers in supported Eurozone markets will have to fork out €1,349.

It uses a QHD Tandem WOLED panel that runs at a native 540Hz refresh rate. The monitor also has a 0.02ms response time and Sony’s Motion Blur Reduction technology. Sony worked with esports organization Fnatic on a separate competitive mode that trades resolution and usable screen size for an even higher refresh rate. (via Notebookcheck)

LG’s insanely fast UltraGear 25G590B finally has a price and a US release date. The 24.5-inch esports monitor is now available to preorder exclusively from LG for $999.99, with free expedited shipping scheduled to begin on September 1.

The headline feature is a native 1,000Hz refresh rate at 1920 x 1080, making it the first Full HD gaming monitor to reach that speed without dropping to a lower resolution. The screen can update up to 1,000 times per second, or once every millisecond. LG also lets users overclock it to 1,100Hz.
