After releasing the Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.11.3 hotfix last week, AMD is back again with another driver release for Radeon graphics card owners: version 16.11.4. Like the last release, there is not a lot going on with this version outside adding support for one specific PC game and listing several fixed and known issues.

For starters, the new driver is optimized for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI that launched on October 21. So far, the game appears to be performing quite well with the critics and PC gamers, earning an overall score of 88 out of 100 on Metacritic. If you have not picked the game up, here are the minimum and recommended requirements for AMD-based systems:

Minimum Recommended
Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7/8.1/10 64-bit Windows 7/8.1/10

AMD’s new driver also fixed two other issues. For starters, it resolved an issue with Titanfall 2 running on Radeon R9 Fury Series graphics cards, as players were experiencing “minor graphical issues” when inside a titan.

The company also resolved a bug concerning H.264 content playback. Prior to this release, AMD customers were experiencing playback issues inside internet browsers with hardware acceleration enabled and gaming applications and content running at the same time.

Of course, AMD still has a few outstanding issues it still needs to deal with but the list is rather short, reporting six in-progress items. Still on the list is that pesky bug related to the Raptr desktop client that prevents many games from launching, causes them to crash, and/or causes performance issues with the in-game overlay enabled. Right now, Raptr users must switch that overlay off until AMD resolves the issue on the driver side.

Here is the list of game-related issues that are still outstanding:

Doom: This game may crash if launched with Vulkan enabled.
DOTA 2: This game may crash if launched with Vulkan enabled.
Overwatch: AMD CrossFire configurations may see flickering in the main menu or when viewing character models.
FIFA 17: The game may hang or show a black screen on launch on certain Hybrid Graphics or AMD PowerXpress configurations.

Finally, the last listed outstanding bug is related to AMD’s new Radeon RX 400 Series cards. These customers may experience blocky playback when streaming H.264 content through peer-to-peer content players.

This mini PC, and I do mean mini, has a Ryzen 7000 tucked inside for $200 off
Geekom A7 Mini PC with AMD Ryzen 7 for gaming showcased.

Computing, or small computing, has come a long way in recent years. Thanks to renewed interest in more manageable desktop sizes, even for PC gaming, we've seen a boon in the small PC world, namely with small form factor PCs (SFFPCs). For good reason, people are more interested in systems that take up less space, are more efficient, especially with energy usage, and can be placed in new areas, like their living rooms. There is now a whole category of small and mini PCs, and although they are bite-sized, they still pack a punch. Take Geekom's A7 Mini PC, which has an AMD Ryzen 7000 series tucked inside. That's no slouch on its own, but it also has 64GB of DDR5 RAM, WiFi 6E, and AMD Radeon graphics that supports up to four displays. All of that is packed inside an ultra-slim, space-saving case about the size of a book. Incredible. The top-tier model is currently $200 off, down to $649 instead of $849, when you use code digitaltrendsa7 at checkout. That code is valid in the US and the UK.
