A Quiet Place Part II (2020)

A Quiet Place Part II (2020) - Big Game Spot - Paramount Pictures

Paramount Pictures released a new TV spot for the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s A Quiet Place and, while it’s only 30 seconds long, there is plenty to get hyped about in the preview. It appears as if we’ll get a glimpse of the events leading up to the first movie and the origin of the creatures introduced in the franchise. It also appears that Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) and her family decide to leave their home following the dramatic end to the first movie. The trailer adds more questions than it answers, but it has us intrigued for the March 20 release.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)

Sonic the Hedgehog Super Bowl TV Spot (2020) | #CatchSonic | Movieclip Trailers

It might seem weird that this movie is even happening, but here we are. And surprisingly, its Super Bowl trailer is actually pretty solid. Disguised as an athletic ad featuring stars like football player Christian McCaffrey, gold medal sprinter Allyson Felix and NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, it’s revealed that everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog is behind the camera. Plus, it’s hard to dismiss a movie that features Jim Carrey playing an insane, over-the-top villain like Dr. Robotnik.

Mulan (2020)

Mulan Super Bowl Teaser Trailer (2020) | Movieclips Trailers

Are you tired of live-action remakes of animated classics yet? Disney sure isn’t. The latest iteration is Mulan, which appears to have some pretty stunning cinematography from the looks of this new Super Bowl spot. We all know the story, of course, but it’s always interesting to see how these classics are translated to the world of live-action cinema.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (2020)

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Super Bowl TV Spot (2020) | Movieclips Trailers

SpongeBob is heading back to the big screen, and it did its best to get us excited about it with this Super Bowl spot. Improved animation? Check. Fourth-wall-breaking moment in the first five seconds? It’s got it. Snoop Dogg playing himself, and Keanu Reeves playing a talking tumbleweed? Just take our money already.

Hunters (2020)

Hunters | Super Bowl Commercial | Prime Video

Hunters is an outlier on this list since it’s a trailer for an Amazon Prime TV series, not a movie. However, it’s a series with a compelling premise — a group of Nazi hunters assembles in 1977 New York City to prevent the rise of the Fourth Reich — along with Jordan Peele as an executive producer and Al Pacino as part of the cast. Those pieces alone will probably make Hunters worth watching.

Black Widow (2020)

Marvel Studios' Black Widow | Big Game Spot

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with one of the most mysterious Avengers getting her own movie. Appropriately, the teaser spot begins with the titular character saying, “You don’t know everything about me.” She goes on to explain that “The Avengers weren’t my first family.” That’s one enticing line! Due out May 1, Black Widow sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her super py role alongside Emmy nominee David Harbour, Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, and Oscar nominee Florence Pugh.

Top Gun: Maverick (2020)

Top Gun: Maverick (2020) – Big Game Spot – Paramount Pictures

Airing right after Demi Lovato finished the national anthem, the new Top Gun: Maverick spot dropped with a heart-thumping bang. As Maverick (Tom Cruise) gasps for air while performing some death-defying flight maneuvers, we hear a voice-over that seems to suggest the famous pilot’s antics have apparently caught up with him. He’s at risk of being court-martialed and dishonorably discharged. The spot also shows us glimpses of new antagonists Jon Hamm and Ed Harris, new love interest Jennifer Connelly, and the son of Maverick’s late wingman Goose, played by Miles Teller.

Fast & Furious 9 (2020)

F9 - Official Trailer [HD]

The massive, nearly 4-minute trailer for the ninth film in the high-speed franchise once again touts the importance of family and fighting to keep your place in this world. In this edition, John Cena plays Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) long-lost, equally qualified brother, who is hell-bent on finally ending the sibling rivalry once and for all. Oscar winners Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron also join the action, which looks just as over-the-top and insane as always.

The Invisible Man (2020)

The Invisible Man - In Theaters February 28 [HD]

In the latest spot for the horror movie, we hear the terrifying voice of tThe Invisible Man (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) as he haunts (and gaslights) his ex-girlfriend, played by Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss. It’s creepy and amped-up with special effects, but did anyone really want this reboot?

No Time to Die (2020)

NO TIME TO DIE | Official Game Day Spot 2020

The 25th film in the James Bond franchise (and Daniel Craig’s final one as 007) is set to release April 10. No Time to Die appears to be something of a passing of the guard as Craig begins to work with a new 007, played by Lashana Lynch. The teaser is loaded with classic Bond stunts, gadgets, cars, and some quick glimpses of characters both familiar and new.

Christopher Nolan says not owning a smartphone helps him think better
Christopher Nolan sits in front of an IMAX camera.

Christopher Nolan has spent his career embracing cutting-edge filmmaking technology while resisting one of the most common gadgets on the planet: the smartphone. The Oscar-winning director behind Oppenheimer, Inception, and the upcoming The Odyssey says his decision isn't about rejecting technology altogether. It's about protecting something he believes has become increasingly rare - time to think.

In an interview with The Telegraph ahead of the premiere of The Odyssey, Nolan explained that he still doesn't own a smartphone, despite living in a world where QR codes, digital tickets, and messaging apps have become everyday necessities. His reasoning, however, is far more practical than philosophical.
