Batman: Arkham City will be released under Games For Windows Live

It’s no secret that Microsoft’s online gaming service Games For Windows Live has its share of critics — but apparently Batman isn’t one of them.

As confirmed by VG247, Batman: Arkham City will be released as a GFWL title, following in the footsteps of its wildly successful predecessor, Batman: Arkham Asylum. The news comes on the heels of varying reports regarding the online platform the game will use for its PC-based incarnations.

So, sorry Steamworks fans, but is the news really that surprising? After all, Bruce Wayne always struck us as a Microsoft sort of guy anyways.

Even if the news is a bit of a downer for some PC-gaming fans, there’s still a lot to be happy about regarding Rocksteady’s upcoming sequel to Arkham Asylum. For example, there’s that ridiculously cool Mr. Freeze trailer that premiered earlier this month. Go watch it again to cheer yourself up.

There’s also the the previously released Arkham City trailer featuring The Penguin, and those photos of the Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition package. (Those always work for me, at least.)

Batman: Arkham City hits shelves October 18 in the U.S. for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and of course, PC.

What’s happened? One of the biggest questions surrounding the Steam Machine has been its price, especially since it’s meant to feel “console-like” at a time when PC component costs, including RAM, are climbing. Valve has finally offered some clarity. Speaking on Skill Up’s Friends Per Second podcast, Valve hardware director Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed that the Steam Machine won’t follow the traditional console model of selling hardware at a loss. Instead, it will be priced in line with a PC that offers similar performance. The idea is to prioritise power and build quality rather than chase a lower entry price. That said, Valve still hasn’t shared the exact figures.

Valve emphasises it will not take a loss on hardware to hit a lower price point.

What’s happened? Xbox has teamed up with Crocs to launch a limited-edition pair of Xbox Classic Clogs that literally look like an Xbox controller for your feet. These aren’t your everyday foam clogs; they’re styled like an Xbox Wireless Controller, with molded buttons, thumbsticks, and that iconic green-on-black look.

The Xbox Classic Clogs are currently available on the Crocs’ official store for $80 in the US.

What’s happened? Delivering on promises made at its launch, the ROG Xbox Ally has gotten yet another feature update. Both ASUS and Microsoft have pushed a new update for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld that introduces Default Game Profiles (Preview), which basically offers ready-made performance settings for supported titles. Instead of manually tweaking TDP, FPS limits, or power modes, the device auto-applies profiles when you launch one of the 40+ supported games. The feature is rolling out now in preview form, with more games promised soon.

At launch, the profiles cover titles including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
