Dell Snaps Up Alienware

Ending weeks of speculation and rumor, Dell today announced they were acquiring high performance PC maker Alienware for an undisclosed amount. Alienware will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell following the completion of the transaction and will maintain its own product development, product marketing, sales, technical support, management and founders as well as the brand.

Alienware CEO Nelson Gonzalez posted a statement at Alienware’s Web site about the transaction in which he stated how “proud” he was about “embarking on this combination with Dell” and that “cultural synergies” exist between both companies which will “help us accelerate our long steps to fulfilling our dream of a PC company totally focused on high-performance technology and cool industrial designs” via “operational efficiencies that Alienware will derive from this acquisition”.

For his part, Dell chariman Michael Dell said in a press release that “Alienware’s products are an excellent complement to Dell’s own line of high-performance computers designed for gaming, enthusiast and media content customers. In addition to offering high-quality, high-performance products, Alienware has tremendous brand appeal with consumers and creative business professionals.”
