Rave while you bathe with this LED-equipped shower speaker

If singing in your shower is your thing, today is your lucky day. There’s a fresh new project on Indiegogo that’s sure to take your acapella renditions of Chaka Khan’s Greatest Hits to the next level.

It’s called The Shower Speaker, and if you haven’t guessed what it is already, it’s exactly what that admittedly bland name would lead you to believe: A shower head with a small Bluetooth speaker built into it. To be fair, this isn’t exactly a new idea, but this one has some notable advantages over its predecessors.

In addition to the integrated waterproof speaker pod, The Shower Speaker also sports an array of colored LEDs. And contrary to what you might think, they’re not there merely for aesthetic purposes either — they actually serve a purpose. The lights are designed to act as a sort of passive information system that, with the help of an embedded temperature sensor, will tell you how hot or cold the water is with color-coded signals. No more holding your hand under the stream until it feels right — the lights glow blue if the water is cold, magenta if it’s warm, and red if it’s nice and hot.

We haven’t had a chance to try one of these badboys out for ourselves yet, but according to its creators, the Shower Speaker is also a breeze to install. Since it doesn’t require any wires or external power, all you need to do is pop in some batteries, unscrew your old shower head, and replace it with this one. It’s designed to be universal, so it will supposedly fit most shower pipes.

Unfortunately the Shower Speaker isn’t quite available for purchase at this point, but if you’re interested, the creators have opened up pre-orders on Indiegogo to help raise the necessary funds for the first production run. If you back the project now, you can lock one down for just 80 bucks. Assuming the project meets its $50K funding goal within the next 30 days, the creators expect to ship the first units to backers as early as January of 2015.

How to reset the Nanoleaf Skylight
The Nanoleaf Skylight lighting up a room various shades of purple.

The Nanoleaf Skylight is a unique piece of hardware. Unlike most Nanoleaf products that are quick to install or easy to move and replace, the Skylight is designed as a permanent fixture in your home. Instead of simply plugging it into an electrical outlet, you'll need to hardwire it onto your ceiling – and once it's in place, you'll want it to stay there for years.

However, like all electronics, it's possible for your Nanoleaf Skylight to start acting up. And since there's no easy way to get the entire unit down from your ceiling, you might be wondering how you can quickly solve the problem. Thankfully, Nanoleaf designed a simple way for you to reset the Nanoleaf Skylight without the need to disassemble the entire setup.
