There are few intersections of pop culture and American politics that have generated more buzz than the 1970 meeting between the “King of Rock ‘n Roll” Elvis Presley and former U.S. President Richard Nixon. The photo that resulted from that famous meeting remains one of the most frequently requested images in the National Archives to this day. Now an upcoming movie will bring this weird, surreal moment in American history to the big screen, and it’ll feature two of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Revolutionary Road and Man Of Steel actor Michael Shannon and Oscar-winning American Beauty and The Usual Suspects actor Kevin Spacey will play Presley and Nixon, respectively, in the appropriately titled Elvis & Nixon. The film will be based on the meeting that famously resulted in Presley being given a badge and official “agent-at-large” position in the recently formed federal agency known as The Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

Directed by Liza Johnson (ReturnHateship Loveship), the film is adapted from a screenplay co-written by The Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes, Hanala Sagal, and Joey Sagal.

“It’s almost hard to fathom this story which evolved in the oval office between these two extraordinary men,” said Bloom production company’s Alex Walton in an official statement announcing the project. “It’s almost too good to be true.”

There’s no release date set for Elvis & Nixon at this point.

Gladiator 2: release date, cast, plot, trailer, and more
Joaquin Phoenix stares into Russell Crowe's eyes as the latter is chained.

In 2000, director Ridley Scott introduced Maximus Decimus Meridius to the world in Gladiator. The historical epic starred Russell Crowe as Maximus, a Roman general sold into slavery after being betrayed by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the Emperor's power-hungry son. Maximus becomes a gladiator and vows to exact his revenge on Commodus for killing his family. Gladiator was the second-highest-grossing film of 2000 and won five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe.

Twenty-four years later, Scott returns to the arena of blood and sand with his long-awaited sequel, Gladiator 2. The film will follow an adult Lucius Verus, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus. Gladiator 2 is one of the most anticipated films on the 2024 calendar. Below, we explore everything you need to know about Gladiator 2, including the release date, cast, synopsis, and trailer.
