Bungie has released a free trial/demo version of Destiny, so anyone who’s on the fence can it a try before taking the plunge into the massively multiplayer shooter. Called a “Trial” for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and a “Demo” for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, both versions are available now for download on the consoles’ respective digital stores.
Bungie’s FAQ page does not specify exactly how much content is included, such as whether it has a level cap, timed limit, or fixed selection of available content. It also does not make clear what the distinction is between the Trial and the Demo, except for their respective platforms. What is explicit is that both versions give aspiring Guardians access to a representative sampling of character creation, progression, and story content, in addition to multiplayer activities.
The free version requires about as much hard drive space as a full retail copy, weighing in at 20GB for PS4 and XB1 and 6GB for PS3 and X360. Note that it is compatible with almost all versions of the respective consoles but not a few variants with insufficient internal hard drives: Xbox 360 Arcade Console, 4GB Console, and Core System; and the PlayStation 3 12GB System.
