Sony’s cutting-edge Xperia Z4 tablet just leaked, and may debut next week

Sony may have accidentally leaked a new Xperia Android tablet ahead of next week’s Mobile World Congress tech trade show. Apparently spotted inside Sony’s Xperia Lounge app, we should look out for the Xperia Z4 Tablet on March 3, or potentially just before. The image and details have subsequently been removed, but not before a screenshot of the tablet was captured by the XperiaBlog.

The image shows a familiar thin tablet profile from Sony, complete with the trademark circular power on/off button. It closely resembles the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact released late last year, but there’s no confirmation of the screen size yet.

However, the screen is supposed to have a 2K resolution, which will probably translate into a 2048 x 1536 pixel count. The 2K tag makes it sound more impressive than it actually is, with other tablets – such as Samsung’s Galaxy Note Pro range – have higher screen resolutions. The leaked picture also promises the “latest ultra fast processor,” and “industry leading battery performance.” Does that mean the Z4 Tablet will have a Snapdragon 810?

Rumors have been gathering about various Xperia Z4 devices coming from Sony during Mobile World Congress, ranging from the standard flagship Android phone, the Z4, to Walkman-branded spin-offs. Sony’s unlikely to debut the Xperia Z4 Tablet without at least one matching Z4 smartphone to accompany it.

In the recent past, rumors also spread about a Z4 Tablet Ultra, which boasted a spec sheet that was almost too good to be true – a 4K, 12.9-inch screen, and 6GB of RAM for example. There’s no guarantee any of these Z4-branded devices are real, or that they will be released in the near future.

Mobile World Congress starts on March 2, and is being held in Barcelona, Spain. DigitalTrends will be at the show, and we’ll keep you updated on Sony’s announcements over the coming week.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR is my new favorite Android phone of 2024
Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
