Check out the first trailer for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow series

DC's Legends of Tomorrow - First Look
While Marvel has a death-grip on the film side of things, the other side of the comic book coin, DC, has been pushing more and more of its superhero properties to television. DC found success with the Green Arrow at the CW (Arrow), moved onto a series for The Flash, and is full speed ahead with the release of CBS’ Supergirl this fall. Now, DC has introduced a sort of Justice League series into the fray in Legends of Tomorrow.

The latest DC series on the increasingly super-fied CW, Legends of Tomorrow brings together familiar characters from Arrow and The Flash, as well as lesser-known superheroes from the DC comic book universe. The official plot synopsis, according to io9 goes something like this:

“When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?”

The most interesting part from the first glimpse of the show is the return of Caity Lotz. Arrow fans will know, spoiler alert, that Lotz’ character Sarah Lance, aka The Black Canary, was killed off during the third season. It seems that she has been reincarnated using the Lazarus Pit, and will return to the fold as the White Canary. How this will affect Arrow moving forward remains to be seen, as her character’s death was a huge catalyst for plot of the third season.

The trailer shows how the team comes together, and how even the villains of the team will become “legends” in the future. Though Rip Hunter is a time traveler and time travel is hinted at in the trailer, it’ll be interesting to see how much time travel will be a part of the show and how much of the show will take place in the current DC/CW universe.

Notably absent from both the first glimpse and the first cast poster is Franz Drameh, who is rumored to be playing Jay Johnston, a character that could turn into the hero Cyborg.

Legends of Tomorrow will star Victor Garber, as Dr. Martin Stein, one half of Firestorm; Brandon Routh, as billionaire Ray Palmer and The Atom; Arthur Darvill as time traveler Rip Hunter; Caity Lotz as Sarah Lance, a.k.a. The White Canary; Ciarra Renee as Hawkgirl; Franz Drameh as Jay Johnston; Dominic Purcell as Heatwave and Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold.

The show is set to debut sometime in the near future, though no release date has yet been announced.

The first weekend in May has arrived, and Hulu fans should be happy to hear that there's a new lineup of movies to enjoy. Like most of the major streamers, Hulu debuts the majority of its library additions on the first of the month. But there will more movies released on Hulu throughout May.

Since the first weekend of May is traditionally timed around the opening of a superhero movie, our first choice this weekend is a comic book film that's celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Our other two picks include Tom Hanks' directorial debut, and a generation-spanning drama that holds up three decades after its release.
