At long last, somebody finally built a fully functional X-Wing drone

At this point, if you don’t know who Oliver C is, chances are pretty good that you’ve been living under a rock. Over the past few months, this guy has won the heart of the Internet with his awe-inspiring, fully functional, and totally badass replicas of popular Star Wars ships — and he’s showing no signs of stopping. Following up his previously shown Millennium Falcon, Tie Fighter, and Imperial Destroyer drones, he’s back with a ship we’ve all been waiting for: The iconic X-Wing fighter.

Keeping with the same formula he used in his previous spacecrafts, Oliver’s X-Wing (specifically an Incom T-70 X-Wing, for those who care) is constructed from a lightweight foam shell that slips onto the chassis of an Omen 410: a carrier drone of the Frenchman’s own design. It’s a completely custom build, but as always, the benevolent Oliver C has posted the materials list and build instructions online — so you can actually make it yourself with just a few hundred bucks and some basic tools.

Honestly, it’s astonishing that Disney or Mattel haven’t hired this guy as a product designer and tasked him with producing these drones/foam attachments commercially. They’d sell like hotcakes, and the Star Wars franchise has a nearly infinite pool of awesome spacecraft just waiting to be brought to life.

Whether or not that happens, it’s pretty clear that Oliver C isn’t going to stop until he’s made a flyable version of every Star Wars ship there is. At this point the only question is which one he’ll make next. The T-47 Airspeeder perhaps? The Lambda Shuttle? What about Boba Fett’s ship, the Slave I? Personally we’re hoping he can somehow figure out a way to make a flying version of the Death Star, but what’s next is really anyone’s guess.
