PC system requirements and new trailer for Mad Max hit as release day draws near

While Mad Max: Fury Road has come and gone from theaters, those craving more post-apocalyptic action will get it in the upcoming vehicular combat game Mad Max. With its September release date fast approaching, developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Warner Bros. have released the system requirements for the PC version of the game.

The requirements are posted on the Mad Max Steam page, and if they show anything about the future of PC gaming, it’s that RAM requirements are getting higher at a surprisingly quick rate. To run the game on low settings you’ll need 6GB RAM, while you’ll obviously want more for higher settings.

The system requirements are pretty similar to other recent releases, so don’t expect to need an upgrade if your system can handle recent games. See the full requirements below:

Minimum

  • OS: 64 bit: Vista, Win 7, Win 8
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-650, 3.2 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 Ghz
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660ti (2 GB Memory or higher) or AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB Memory or higher)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 32 GB available space

Recommended

  • OS: 64 bit: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (3 GB Memory or higher) or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (3 GB Memory or higher)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 32 GB available space

In addition to the system requirements, a new trailer for the game has been posted. Entitled “Stronghold,” the trailer doesn’t show much in the way of gameplay, opting instead to focus on the characters you’ll meet — who of course have names like Gutgash and Pink Eye — while playing through the game.

Mad Max will also be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was originally slated to appear on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but those versions of the game were canceled in March.

The PC release of Mad Max hits the same day as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game: September 1. If that date sounds familiar, it’s because Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain arrives the same day.

How to sail solo in Sea of Thieves
A ship sailing peacefully in Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves is meant to be played as part of a crew. You and a few friends loot and plunder the seas (and other players) as a team. That's not the only way to sail the seven seas, however. If you'd prefer to sail alone, you can also take to the ocean on a smaller, more nimble ship. Taking on the pirate life without any help can be especially tough -- you don't have any backup in emergencies, and if you run up against a crew of other players, you'll have to take them on at a disadvantage.

It's possible to succeed on the high seas all by your lonesome, though, if you play to the strengths of working alone. You are smaller, quicker, and stealthier than other crews and the galleons you might have to face. If you're smart about it, you can win battles, escape emergencies, sneak past enemies, and plunder a whole bunch of loot. Use these tips to maximize your effectiveness as a solo buccaneer.
