Rumors about a dock to compliment Google’s popular 7-inch wonder the Nexus 7 have been spurring around since last summer, and while it showed up briefly at third party retailers, today Google’s Nexus 7 dock finally arrived at the Play Store – only to sell out moments later.

The Nexus 7 dock isn’t exactly wondrous by design, but excitement about it grew as rumors came and went about its very existence. In January, the third party retailer B&H began offering preorders of the dock for just $40, and almost immediately sold out. Google has now offered the very same dock for just $30 on its Play Store, selling out in no time at all. B&H is also back-ordered on the dirt-cheap dock until April.

Beyond the mystery of its availability, the Nexus 7 dock itself is a modest accessory for the miniature tablet. It doesn’t do anything special, instead simply charging the Nexus 7 and offering a  audio jack output for plugging in headphones. Beyond that, it simply is a great and easy way to keep your Nexus 7 charged and  also has a nice viewing angle for watching videos while charging. You don’t have to plug it in to charge either; a line of wireless charging dots along the side of the Nexus 7 allow it to connect to the dock and begin charging seamlessly.

Given the price and popularity of the dock, you’ll have to act fast the next time it shows up on sale. It goes to show that sometimes you don’t have to offer much in a dock to make it sell like hotcakes – all you need is the right price, and a little bit of mystery.

If you've been holding out on buying a new phone for a while because prices are still expensive, then you may want to consider going for one of the older flagship phones. In fact, you can buy a brand new and sealed Pixel 7 Pro from Woot for just $500, rather than the usual $1,100, and that's for the 512GB version of the phone, so you get a lot of storage with it as well.

A new Google Pixel Tablet is coming, but it’s not what you think
Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

It's been almost a year since the Google Pixel Tablet went up for preorder, leading many Android tablet fans to wonder when the inevitable Pixel Tablet 2 will arrive. A new rumor suggests that Google could release a new Pixel Tablet as early as next month, but it's probably not what you were expecting or hoping for.

According to @MysteryLupin on X (formerly Twitter), Google is planning to "relaunch" the Pixel Tablet without the charging/speaker dock included in the box. As you'll likely recall, the speaker dock is the Pixel Tablet's standout feature. You can use the Pixel Tablet on its own as a traditional Android tablet when you want, and when you're done, you throw it on the dock to transform it into a smart display. The idea of Google selling the Pixel Tablet without its claim to fame is an interesting one.
