Samsung Galaxy Buds down to just $100 for Cyber Monday

Dan Baker/Digital Trends

Treating yourself to some new earbuds? Amazon wants to make that a cheaper proposition with this Cyber Monday deal for a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds. Usually $130, they’re down to $99 for the day , and you’ll get free same-day shipping if you’re a Prime member.

We expected Samsung’s first pair of stringless buds to be good, but the Korean electronics giant knocked it out of the park. We think they’re some of the best true wireless earbuds on the market. Samsung’s history as an audio manufacturer is solid, but its potential skyrocketed with the Harman acquisition in 2017. Tuned by long-time audio experts AKG, the Samsung Galaxy Buds have a soundstage that contends with earbuds that cost much more. It’s especially good once you’ve found the right EQ setting for you, of which there are three.

More than music, the Galaxy Buds are great for calls. Samsung employs a unique two-microphone system that automatically detects your surrounding noise and swaps active mics to help filter out noise. It helps keep wind from entering your voice stream, and can even improve the quality of your calls in louder settings.

For owners of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones running Android, pairing the buds are as simple as opening their case near the phone. Once connected, you’ll find some neat features in the companion app, such as Find My Buds. You can also customize the multi-function button to launch your virtual assistant, toggle ambient sound mode, and change your EQ profiles. Those who own non-Samsung Android phones or iPhones get much of the same functionality, including access to Siri in the latter. You’ll only miss out on automatic pairing.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds boast six hours of battery life on a single charge, which is ideal, but the case only grants seven additional hours. It’s one of the biggest pitfalls keeping them from scoring higher in our review, where Parker Hall once called them the best true wireless earbuds you could buy. As a consolation, charging the case itself is easier with wireless charging contacts, meaning you can just drop it onto a mat — or for Galaxy S10 owners, the back of your phone — to get back to full.

Already a solid value at $130, the Galaxy Buds should be one of your first Cyber Monday considerations if you’ve been looking for some solid true wireless earbuds that won’t break the bank. Well-constructed with water resistance and a sleek build, these should be able to keep up with you no matter your lifestyle.

Palm takes a shot at the AirPods Pro with $129 Palm Buds Pro
Palm Buds Pro.

You might think that after having received a horrible reception for its first product -- the Palm 2018 mini smartphone -- Palm would focus its energies on making a new and improved phone. But that's not the plan, at least, not for the moment. Instead, the Palm team has decided to take a shot at true wireless earbuds, with the $129 Palm Buds Pro, a set of noise-canceling earbuds aimed squarely at the $249 AirPods Pro, that promise booming bass and "studio-grade" sound. Pre-orders for the new buds start October 26 at a special price of $99 until November 9.

Design-wise, Palm seems content to use a set of molds provided by their contract manufacturer. The Palm Buds Pro are physically identical to the $60 Enacfire A9, right down to the charging case. But Palm claims the internal components have been developed to their unique specifications. "Our engineers have also developed one of the most advanced Active Noise Cancelling and Environmental Noise Cancelling systems on the market," said Howard Nuk, co-founder at Palm. That sounds promising, but then, in one of the frequently asked questions provided to journalists, the company said, "Unlike other connected earbuds on the market, Palm Buds Pro have 10mm dynamic range speakers," a statement that is not accurate, as there are many true wireless earbuds that have 10mm drivers.

Google has stopped selling the Pixel Buds in the U.S. and Canada
Google Pixel Buds box and case.

Google appears to have discontinued its Pixel Buds, as evidenced by their newfound absence from the Google Store in the U.S. and Canada. Now, searching for the Pixel Buds on either store will give you the option to see the Pixel Buds A as well as a banner telling you that the Pixel Buds are out of stock, as spotted by Android Police.

While being out of stock would not ordinarily be an issue, Google has also appeared to remove all the information about the Pixel Buds from its storefront, making it likely that the sales run of the Buds has concluded.
