Next time you're in Amsterdam, visit the world's first gamer's hotel, Arcade Hotel

There’s somebody for everybody, and as it turns out, there’s also some place for every interest. For gamers, that place — that Mecca, shall we say — has just opened its doors in the form of a gamer hotel that invites you to spend your entire day with a console in hand, staring at a screen. Aptly named the Arcade Hotel, this new residence in Amsterdam provides an alternative to all the incredible history, art, and culture that you could see by, you know, walking around the capital of the Netherlands. But if staying in is your idea of a great vacation (hey, no judgment), you may want to book your stay at the Arcade Hotel right now.

The hotel boasts a lobby that features shared game consoles, a comic book library, and all the other amenities you’d expect out of a lovely European residence. Gaming events, extra consoles, and drinks are all available in common spaces, but fret not — you’ll also be fully outfitted with gaming gear in each of the 36 rooms.

A retro console and games can be found in every guest space, and if you need a multiplayer setup, just go grab some more controllers from downstairs. And in the coming years, the hotel hopes to open up a dedicated gaming room (because your individual guest room just won’t do), as well as add another nine rooms to the edifice.

“[I’ve remodeled] this hotel into a special place for people who love gaming,” says owner Daniel Salmanovich, who has built the Arcade Hotel as part of his family-run business. “I wanted to create a place where travelers and gamers feel like they are staying at a friends home.” That is, if your friends are totally obsessed with video games.

But don’t worry. Even if you’re not crazy about these arcade games, the hotel has something for you. The food promises to be delicious, with local cheese, organic jams, Italian ham, fresh fruits, whole grain bread, “and trust us when we say Winnie the Pooh would sell Piglet for our honey.” There are also DIY waffles, which almost seems more compelling than the games.

And because you do actually need to get outside sometimes when you’re in Amsterdam, the hotel offers “a bikegantomatic fleet of bikes” that guests can rent. And given its close proximity to Museum Square, you’ll have plenty of destinations to bike towards.

So what are you waiting for? Book that flight to the Netherlands, and when you’re in Amsterdam, be sure to spend at least one night in the Arcade Hotel. It’ll be an experience in and of itself.

You can play Oblivion Remastered today, and yes, it still has horse armor
Oblivion remake

Today, Bethesda unveiled The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, described as a "love letter" to the original game with updated graphics, modernized gameplay, and more. Better yet, the game is available to play today through Game Pass, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The game has been rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, although the teams at both Bethesda and Virtuos said little about the core of the game has changed. It remains the Oblivion you remember; it just looks and plays better, with a much wider range of technical ability than the disc-based game of 2006. That said, it has several quality-of-life improvements that will make it easier for gamers used to modern mechanics.

Multiple retro hardware companies are pulling out of the US market
Retroid Pocket handheld gaming console.

At least two different retro game hardware companies have stopped shipments to the United States in response to Trump's tariffs, citing the risk of delays and lost packages. Last week, Retrotink announced it would temporarily end its US orders on April 28, and now Anbernic has followed suit with an updated shipping policy.

Retrotink CEO Mike Chi said, "Due to lack of guidance on how tariffs will be collected starting May 2nd, we've made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend US shipment." He points out that there is some reserve stock in the United States, so you might still be able to buy Retrotink devices for a limited time. "We also expect that this will be resolved eventually - but it is impossible to say when or how," Chi said.
