Be sure you’re breathing clean air with the Atmosphere Sky Air Treatment System

As fresh and crisp as the fall air may be now, in a few months, many of us will be keeping our windows tightly closed in hopes of keeping out the cold night air. But unfortunately, that likely means that we’re keeping in some rather polluted air. As per a 2016 study, indoor air can actually be more damaging to our health than outdoor air, as pollution makes its way into our homes. Luckily, there’s a fix — meet the Atmosphere Sky Air Treatment System, a new air purifier from Amway that promises to be the “best performing HEPA air purifier” on the market.

Our residential lives expose us to smoke, fungal spores, and chemicals used in paints, varnishes, and cleaners — all inside our homes and apartments. But the Sky Air Treatment System promises to remove up to 99.99 percent of airborne allergens, as well as contaminants as small as 0.007 microns.

The Atmosphere Sky claims a coverage area of up to 468 square feet (which could be your entire apartment if you’re living in a New York shoebox studio), and promises to be nearly silent. So even as it’s playing the hero, saving you from breathing contaminated air, you’ll be able to forget you even have it running.

Of course, because this is a 21st-century device, the Atmosphere Sky features a companion app, which will allow you to turn the system on or off from anywhere, and adjust the settings. That means that if you’ve just had your home repainted or deep cleaned, you can crank up the power on the system; or turn things down a bit if you know the Sky has been running for some time.

Even aside from removing the pollutants that you might not be aware of, the Sky also serves a more practical purpose — removing odors from cooking and pets. And those smells become particularly pungent in the dead of winter, when you’re least likely to crack open a window that might otherwise allow these odors to escape.

The Atmosphere Sky system doesn’t exactly come cheap, with a retail price of $1,699, but can you really put a price tag on breathing clean air?

Hyundai wants to make sure you’re seeing the outside world, not inhaling it
2020 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai wants to improve the quality of the air you breathe when you're behind the wheel. The South Korean company is developing an intelligent air purification system for its cars that continuously monitors the quality of the air inside the cabin, cleans it when it detects the presence of harmful particulates, and shares the results with the passengers in real time.

Many cars sold new in 2019 come with an air purification system, but it's usually only active for a period of time determined by each manufacturer, and it shuts off when it's programmed to regardless of whether the air is clean or not. Hyundai's system relies on a laser-based sensor neatly integrated into the cabin to tell whether the air quality is excellent, good, fair, or poor. If it's excellent or good, then all is well and the system goes in standby mode. If it falls to fair, however, the air purification system automatically turns on and eliminates particulates until the level again rises to excellent, and the occupants can breathe easy. This process happens almost instantaneously, according to Hyundai, even if the air quality outside is poor.

Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home make up the three biggest smart home platforms on the planet. Google Home is popular thanks to its lineup of Nest products, which includes the Nest Hub Max, Nest Doorbell, and Nest Cam, along with many other devices. Best of all, Google Home supports a wide array of third-party products, giving users an easy way to link all their gadgets together and control them from one streamlined app.

But, as you'd expect, getting all these devices working seamlessly isn't always as easy as it sounds. The Google Home platform is also susceptible to the same issues as other smart home platforms, which include various connectivity hiccups and problems with voice commands. Solving these problems is usually pretty easy -- that is, once you know where to look.

Bringing the best of Alexa into the visual realm, the Echo Show allows you to tap into real-time video from your home's smart security system, have video calls with friends and family using Alexa's Drop In feature, stream from Hulu and Prime Video, run photo slideshows, and so much more.

But glitches happen, and the Echo Show is not without its small trail of troubles. Fortunately, many of these issues have straightforward fixes. In this deep dive, we'll be taking a look at the most common Echo Show problems and how you can fix them.
Echo Show screen is flickering
This issue has been with the Echo Show since the first-generation model. What we're talking about are pulsating horizontal lines stretching across the screen. Sometimes, the malfunction appears closer to the bottom of the display, where Alexa's indicator is, or up and down the entire display. Some Echo Show owners experience this infrequently, others all the time. If your own Show is flickering, there are a few things you can try.
