HTC takes to Twitter to tease us about a new curvy device

A cryptic tweet from HTC’s official Twitter account suggests the company has a interesting new product to show us, but isn’t quite ready to reveal all just yet. The tweet reads “More beautiful curves coming soon,” and is accompanied by an image with a quote from English novelist Edward George Bulwer-Lytton. “In life, as in art, the beautiful moves in curves,” it says.

Well, if there’s one thing to take away from HTC’s message, it is the device it has to show is curvy. The new HTC One M8 and the One Mini 2 are quite curvy, but it’s not the overriding theme of the design, so this is shaping up to be something brand new from HTC. A new tablet, or an Android Wear smartwatch? HTC has been rumored to be working on both.

There is another possibility. We’ve been hearing more about an HTC One M8 Prime recently, a device which may challenge the LG G3, and the equally unofficial Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime. Again, we’re not sure how the curvy aspect fits in – surely if it has a 1440p screen, that would be the feature to pick out – but it’s going to be fun finding out. If HTC’s curvy new device is none of the above, what else could it be? A phone with a curved screen, perhaps?

HTC replied to several messages after posting the picture, saying it’s “always innovating,” and that it can’t wait to show us the new product. It didn’t give anything away, but added that it would reveal more soon. It’s a mystery at the moment, and a very intriguing one. It’s also a departure from HTC’s usual way of marketing new products. We wonder if it has something to do with Paul Golden, the marketing guru responsible in part for Samsung’s successful Galaxy campaign.

I’m sick of Motorola phones not having this one essential feature
The Motorola Razr Plus doesn't have an always-on display that can be permanently active.

I’ve really liked many of the Motorola phones I’ve used this year, from the excellent Motorola Razr Plus and Motorola Razr 40 to the interesting, but odd Motorola ThinkPhone.

But I’m increasingly annoyed by the lack of one simple feature across all of them. It’s beginning to really bother me, as I don’t understand why Motorola refuses to add it in. I’m talking about a true always-on screen.
No permanent always-on option
