As we recently reported, the latest versions of Google’s current Android platform, 4.x – which is any version of Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean – has finally surpassed Gingerbread with number of users. The slow roll out and dispersion can be to blamed, though that’s not entirely Google’s fault; the mobile carrier’s and phone manufacturers also play a role.

Today, AT&T announced that it is continuing the Jelly Bean roll out, extending the option to update to the latest version of Android to its Sony Xperia TL and with it, users will see a number of improvements on their device, including:

  • Improved photography: When users have their phones set to Superior Auto mode, enhancements have been made so that the camera is even better at automatically adjusting its settings. Plus, the phone was given new HDR capabilities, which means that the camera will actually take three different photos, each in a different light setting, and then combine all three into a single photo, resulting in optimum quality.
  • Data usage calculator: This is great for anyone who has a habit of going over their monthly data limit. They will now be able to set a cap on the amount of data they’re able to use each month and cut back on those hefty overage charges.
  • SMS MMS notification display: Now, going forward, the full text in an SMS and any photo attached in an MMS will display in full in the phone’s notification window.

Be on the lookout for the update to be released on your phone. Since we haven’t had a chance to try it out in person just yet, if you have, we’d love for you to let us know how you like it. Just let us know by commenting below.

Sony has had a rough history when it comes to smartphones. Last year, the company vowed to do away with its boxy design philosophy and adopt more modern sensibilities. But the tech landscape changes quickly, and those phones are already starting to look a little dated. At Mobile World Congress 2019, Sony unveiled three new phones it hopes will lead the company into the future, though whether Sony really has a future in the mobile business remains to be seen.

Rumors say Sony is making an Xperia phone with a six-lens rear camera
Sony Xperia 1 review

How many camera lenses should your phone have? If you're Google the answer is one (for now), for Apple it's two, while Samsung seems to have settled on three for the moment. Nokia, in a stroke of mad genius, made the Nokia 9 PureView, which has five lenses. But surely any more than five lenses would be pure fantasy? Not according to the rumor mill, which is saying Sony is making an Xperia smartphone with an incredible six-lens rear camera suite.

There's little to report about the design or proposed specs of Sony's new Xperia device, but what little we do know, perhaps unsurprisingly, centers around the camera system. The only news we have about this phone comes from the leaker Max J. (@Samsung_News_). While probably not the final camera specs, the tweet shows a device with an extremely strong and versatile camera system, both on the front and the back of the phone.
