The Samsung Galaxy M series is the first with an Infinity-V display

Samsung's first phones with an Infinity-V display are finally here

At the Samsung Developer Conference in 2018, the company showed off its all-new display times, including the new Infinity-O display, with its hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera, Infinity-U display, and Infinity-V display. So far, we haven’t seen any phones with the Infinity-V display — until now, that is.

After teasing a new range of phones for India, Samsung has taken the wraps off of the new Samsung Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 smartphones. The new devices feature nice, edge-to-edge displays with a small V-shaped cutout for the front-facing camera.

Design and display

Perhaps the most notable thing about the two new phones is their design, thanks to the Infinity-V display. The display on the phones is almost edge-to-edge, though you might note a small chin at the bottom. It’s not huge, but it’s not tiny either. The front-facing camera in the device can be used for Face Unlock features.

The display on the Galaxy M10 comes in at 6.22 inches with a resolution of 1,520 x 720. That’s a little smaller and lower resolution than the Galaxy M20, which boasts a 6.30-inch display and a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080.

On the back, you will find a dual-sensor camera, along with a fingerprint sensor. They’re not bad-looking phones, and while they are a little chunky in some parts, they still look nice and modern.

Specs

Perhaps the main difference between the two phones is their specs. Both phones come with a 1.6GHz octa-core processor, but the Galaxy M10 has 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM while the M20 has 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM. There’s also a difference in battery — while the Galaxy M10 has a battery capacity of 3,400mAh, the Galaxy M20 steps things up to 5,000mAh.

The cameras on the phones are also pretty similar. Both phones offer a dual-sensor camera with one 13-megapixel sensor and one 5-megapixel sensor, while the front-facing camera on the Galaxy M10 comes in at 5 megapixels and the Galaxy M20 comes in at 8 megapixels.

Price and availability

Unfortunately, the two phones are currently only available in India, and we don’t expect that to change any time soon. In India, the Galaxy M10 starts at 7,990 Rupees (around $112), while the Galaxy M20 comes in at 10,990 Rupees (around $155). They’ll be available at Amazon or Samsung’s online store, and come in ocean blue or charcoal black.

It makes sense that Samsung would be focusing more on India. According to Counterpoint, Xiaomi overtook Samsung in market share in India during the fourth quarter of 2017, and in the third quarter of 2018, Xiaomi had a 5 percent lead over Samsung.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 goes wide and light to find a new identity for foldable phones
The Fold 8 stretches out, slims down, and steps into its own identity.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Back

Samsung just took the wraps off the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event, and it's clear the company wants this one to feel like a fresh start for the Fold line, not just another yearly bump.

Before we take a look at everything this device offers, let’s first get the confusing naming out of the way. Since Samsung has added a wider fold to its lineup this year, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is not the successor to the Fold 7. Instead, it’s an entirely new device with a squatter and wider profile.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in hand

Samsung has finally lifted the covers off the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the new top-tier book-style foldable in a lineup that has now grown to three models. The Ultra starts at $2,099.99, with pre-orders open today and general availability set to begin August 7. It's available in Violet Shadow, Graphite, and Cream colorways, along with a Samsung.com exclusive Green Shadow option.

The Fold 8 Ultra is the direct successor to last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it inherits the taller, narrower shape that has defined Samsung's Fold lineup since the start. The new standard Fold 8 moves in a different direction with a shorter, wider body. That split does more than give users an alternate form factor, as Samsung now reserves top-tier specs for the Ultra model, while the regular Fold 8 is a step down and geared towards a wider audience.

For the first time in Samsung’s foldable history, “which Fold should I buy” isn’t a simple question to answer, not for me, not for anyone else. Since the inception of its foldable lineup, the company has always sold one flagship book-style fold a year, without any tiers or confusion whatsoever. However, that Galaxy Unpacked 2026 changes that forever.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 splits into two distinct Fold devices that are based on the same underlying technology but provide entirely different experiences: the Fold 8 Ultra and the new and wider Fold 8. Each is built around a genuinely different idea of what a book-style foldable phone is for.
