The Samsung Gear S2 might be running Tizen, but the good news is that it’s not just for Galaxy phones. The Gear S2 is actually compatible with Android phones running Android 4.4 or higher and at least 1.5GB of RAM.
Not to be confused with Android Wear, the Gear S2 has its own proprietary interface and apps. This means that you won’t get the familiar Google Now notifications found on Android Wear smartwatches. It’s also likely that Samsung Pay and certain other proprietary features will be disabled when using the Gear S2 with non-Galaxy Android phones.
Even with these drawbacks, the Gear S2 is a notable choice for Android users because it offers a lot of neat features in a cool design. Just check out our hands on, and I think you will agree.
