Racking up over one million YouTube views in approximately 24 hours, a YouTube user named Goobie55 posted a video (shown below) recording a FedEx employee chucking a Samsung computer monitor over a fence in order to deliver the package. The camera was mounted next to the front gate and pointed at the doorbell buzzer designed to view anyone visiting the residence. The video captures the FedEx employee removing the Samsung monitor from the back of a FedEx Express van and walking up to the area of the front gate with the buzzer. He then lifts the monitor over the iron fence and throws the box into into the yard without using the buzzer. When Goobie55 discovered the poorly delivered package on his front lawn, the Samsung monitor was broken and had to be returned for a replacement.
In the video description, Goobie55 writes “The sad part is that I was home at the time with the front door wide open. All he would have had to do was ring the bell on the gate.” After being posted on YouTube, the video has attracted many comments relating to the plight of the homeowner and users are sharing negative delivery stories about FedEx through video responses as well. YouTube users have also responded by adding music to reposts of the video, the most timely being “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”
According to The Daily Mail, FedEx Senior Communications Specialist Shea Leordeanu stated “All of us here at FedEx have seen the video and quite frankly we were shocked.” Company officials plan to track down the delivery driver in addition to getting in touch with the YouTube user that posted the video in order to offer compensation for the monitor as well as an official apology.
With comScore tracking of approximately $32 billion in online purchases this holiday, it’s likely that shipping companies like FedEx and UPS are struggling to keep up with the rush. That amount of money is approximately 15 percent higher than the previous year, thus shipping companies likely have an increased number of packages to deliver.
To All the comments about this Lazy FEDEX employee (I hope an EX fedex employee) we are all NOT LIKE THIS ONE, I deliver now during this Christmas season anywhere from 90-120 stops a day I am on the road until I am finished ( I start at 7am and finished tonight at 8:30 PM), we do not have a time limit on how long it takes at a stop, the Fedex corporation knows that there is many different obstacles at each delivery locations that takes time from locked gates to notes on the door “Please wait I am Handicap and it takes me longer to answer the door” (that note I came upon today) There is no excuse for this 1 person that is making a BAD name for the rest of us that take PRIDE in doing our JOB. Most of us order products and have them delivered also, We deliver packages the same way that we want our packages delivered to us.
My question to you is, is that guy going to be fired? And if not, then why? If drivers see that guy chucking packages with no consequence then why should any of them bother doing a good job? Face it, unions are a cancer on companies.
FedEx is decidedly non-union
I do not know if he was fired or not, but I know if it happen were I work my Managers would fire the person in a heart beat with no questions asked videos don’t lie. We get written up for a lot of stupid things so I would think he is gone I HOPE. I work dam hard to give GOOD SERVICE to our customers like you and everybody This is an embarrassing incident to ALL of the good employees of FedEx.
Marc Borland is correct FedEx express is NON UNION
Well said
Damn, how ele can you deliver to a house that has that kind of ghetto prison fence?
Hey guys, it just not your packages that are badly shuffled and thrown over the fences, some Fed Ex drivers are SIPHONING fuel out of vehicles too. This incident was caught on video at my place on one saturday morning, given to the police and Fed Ex but nothing happened. One fed ex uniformed guy in a home delivery van, cut the water hose and siphoned diesel out of our truck all in daylight. They are not admitting that it was their home delivery van even though everything was crystal clear. The investigator came over to talk but after that nobody followed up on that. Every saturday I see a van at the same time(the incident) passes my location and surprisingly their investigators can’t catich him or find out who was the guy on that saturday. Not making sense. If I would have gone air and then might have seen some action. One of these days I am thinking of doing that.
Be aware of that as well.
The whole enchilada is not bad just few bad jelepeno’s are making every stomach go aching.
Just so we make it CLEAR FedEx Ground and FedEx Home are Sub contractors to FedEx. The person you see driving a Ground or Home FedEx truck DOES NOT REPEAT DOES NOT WORK FOR FED EX!! They are the sub contractor that owns the route OR the person that was hired by the sub contractor, EITHER way still not right for what you said was done
Then Fed ex should track what their subcontractors are doing. After all, people are trusting them with their sensitive materials. Fed EX should start taking some responsibility for making things right.
ops my bad, please delete the last comment with the youtube link. PS. Why dont you guys have an option for us to delete (like they do in youtube). Now will have to stay.–pls delete (to garbage).
I’m looking at this over and over again. I think he though it will be fine to toss it into the grass, since those boxes have a lot of cusion inside. Over confidence, and lazy LOL.But fedex do tend to be careless with delivering packages sometimes. I once order an iphone, and the fedex guys gave it to an asian lady that was outside my house. The sad thing is i called fedex a day before given clear instructions to ring bell, and I had my door open. In the Fedex report the delivery guy wrote this: “Gave it to a lady that was outside, she sighed int, got into a brown van, and left.” UNREAL! PS. Yep, had to ask for replacement and weeks of waiting to prove the iphone was not in my possession.
That is really careless, and you see how its a bit difficult for some to find jobs… wow, and some who do have jobs really don’t appreciate a lot of things. Wake up people
I sure hope this guy didnt lose his job over that :(
Oh, one other thing just in case the length of my comment above exceeds each of your reading abilities; bite me.
If I missed this question, forgive me, but why wasn’t the monitor shipped in a cardboard box? I’ve never gotten a piece of equipment delivered in the same box I could pick up at the store. The item may be in the “original” box but then packed in a shipping box with a label. It seems highly unlikely that the monitor would be shipped in it’s “original” box. Just saying…
Cases and monitors are shipped this way. I just did a build, and all my previous ones were the same. And how do you think they get to the store? This way.
I would also like to see proof that the monitor was broke. Those packages are mighty tough. They have to be. Go take a tour of any package handling system. Most are all automated, Belt A DUMPS on to Belt B, which shoves things in to Bin C, and on and on. And for the record, guaranteed he loses his job, as he should. Nothing frosts me more than the callous way FedEx and UPS just dump packages on the front step. Used to be, you had to Sign for FedEx, it was what had made them so popular with shippers, that added security. Not any more.
Hope this guy got fired!
What kills me about this is I know the exact monitor that was being delivered. I saw one at Fry’s and it was easily the most beautiful monitor I have ever seen. And this guy just tossed it. Well, I hope the styrofoam inside the box does its job.
I’m not DEFENDING the FedEx guy. He is obviously in the wrong. But I will defend the service industry in general. Those receiving a service should extend the common courtesy of making it easy on the service person to their job. And no, I don’t resent those who take their security seriously. I do resent those who place their own convenience over courtesy to others. Hence the “snob” comment. And I did say “maybe” as a simple suggestion to look at this in a broader light.Interesting that jmatt worked as a package handler and says this happens all the time. Does that mean that he did as crappy a job as the driver in the video? It certainly means that he did nothing to improve the situation while he was there, right? Hey everybody, let’s all jump on jmatt from Digital Trends; clearly he’s part of the problem, and a hypocrite to boot for criticizing others for doing the same thing he’s done. Oh, and thanks Scott for calling me an idiot for offering a very mild, alternative viewpoint. Nothing says “Merry Christmas” quite like insulting your followers in order to enforce the fact that your opinion is the only opinion that matters, on what I mistakenly assumed to be a forum for open discussion. Brett, I don’t know what a “snog” is. I can only assume you are so overcome with emotion that I dared to have an opinion that differs slightly from yours that your hands are shaking and your typing is less than it could be.
What’s appalling about this video is that the FedEx driver could have taken a couple more steps to get on the other side of the fence and gently place the package on the ground. Instead he disrespected other people’s property!
You’re an idiot. As a low-level package handler, there’s very little that can be done about the problem. Even management saw it happen all the time and never corrected the problem. And I never said I tossed packages around like this, I said I SAW it happen.
It’s a good thing the USPS are losing to these asses!
I’ve worked at FedEx as a package handler and can tell you boxes are tossed around like this ALL THE TIME. This isn’t anything new.
I am appalled that so many people are defending this idiot. If you are that unhappy with your job or can’t keep up the pace, FIND A NEW JOB! For every 1 person that is unhappy in their job or doing it incorrectly, there are 1,000 people standing in line dying to take that job from them. I don’t care how management runs or how much time they give you to get off that truck and get that package delivered (and I find it hard to believe it’s 6-10 seconds, not even the best delivery person can do it in that little time), you applied for the job, you got the job, now you have a responsibility to uphold to the customer’s of that company. I bet if another delivery driver had did this to this guy, he would be just a little more than pissed. And personally if I were management, I would take the broken monitor out of his paycheck. Don’t want to pay for it? Shouldn’t have thrown it. And shame on you people who are actually condoning this behavior. I bet if it was your product that he had thrown you’d have a whole different outlook on the situation.
Bravo
Maybe the driver resents the snob living behind a closed gate. And was pissed that said snob left the gate CLOSED when he was expecting a delivery.
Wow, what an idiot comment.
Really?!? Is your argument that because he has the means to enjoy secure entry to his home he doesn’t deserve the same level of service as you or I? For all you know this guy’s the nicest guy on the planet, I’ll take a leap in logic and offer that its you that resents “the snog living behind a closed gate.”
(sorry if this appears twice)
Yep, the problem isn’t with the deliveryman but management’s policies that overwhelm the purpose of “safe secure delivery” with ‘quantifiable targets’. You can bet if the incentives for the driver were changed, the performance would follow!
They only give them 6-10 seconds to make a delivery from the time their feet hit the pavement to the time their ass is back in the pilot’s seat, and if you are behind, your handheld device makes a note of it, and you catch hell for being behind.
Express Air Delivery…
I would be FedUp with FedEx!
If it was packed right, it survived. LoL
I mean he SENT that baby over, not just a nice easy let down
Same is the case with indian Fed-Ex.
No matter where you are, when in india, you are no more world no.1 ….
they do this all the time but nobody says anything about it
id chase him with it and smash it over his head
haha that is hilarious. What a lazy SOB. He just didn’t want to hit the buzzer, go through the gate and give the monitor to the owner. He must have been running behind schedule!
Lol
That is quite terrible. I am shocked that someone could be so unprofessional…
This video made me laugh! Not because of his action but because its amazing how people have become so careless and lazy. Its so ridiculous its funny…
I’m going to repost this every time someone starts talking about privatizing everything.
