WD’s Passport Portable Drives Hit 320 GB

WD

WD—a.k.a. Western Digital—has unveiled a new 320 GB version of its Passport portable hard drive. The unit weighs less than 5 ounces, and, since it can power itself off a USB 2.0port, there’s no awkward power brick to carry around in order to access data. The drive also comes with WD Sync software to make it easier for consumers to take their desktop content with them, along with 128-bit encryption technology to keep the data secure.

“The need for travel-friendly storage devices continues to be an area that is growing immensely with the advent of rich media content generated by consumers,” said WD VP and general manager Jim Welsh, in a statement. “It’s not only music that’s consuming space on desktops. Higher resolution pictures and HD videos eat up storage very quickly so we’re excited to make a portable 320 GB solution available for consumers on the move.”

The 320 GB drive sports a piano black finish and a suggested retail price of $299.99. WD also offers carrying cases. It’s available now from selected retailers, and should hit WD’s online store later this week.
